The Sleepers River Research Watershed, near Danville, Vermont, is a 111-square-kilometer watershed established in 1958 by the Agricultural Research Service. The research watershed has since been operated by three other federal agencies: National Weather Service, U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). USGS started at the site in collaboration with CRREL in 1991 and has been the sole operating entity since 2000. From 1991 to 2017, the research watershed was part of the national 5-site network of the USGS Water, Energy, and Biogeochemical Budgets (WEBB) program. Since 2017 Sleepers has been funded by USGS Land Change Science to continue the core measurements...
This data release supports publications on the Sleepers River Research Watershed near Danville, Vermont. Most of the research at Sleepers River takes place at W-9, the 40.5-hectare forested headwater site. Topics include understanding hydrologic flow paths, biogeochemical cycling, and organic carbon dynamics. Flow and precipitation data are integral to understanding these processes, for example by combining flow and chemical concentrations to compute solute export from the catchment. These records begin in late September 1991 and extend through calendar year 2018. The release includes five-minute data for discharge, daily data for precipitation, runoff, and maximum and minimum air temperature, and an annual tabulation...

This data release supports an analysis of changes in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration and in the slope of the concentration-discharge relation in the Sleepers River Research Watershed W9 near North Danville, Vermont 1991 to 2018. The data release includes pre-processed model inputs and model outputs. W9 is a 40.5-hectare forested sub-watershed of the Sleepers River Research Watershed that was originally established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1959 and has been intensively studied by the USGS since 1991. The W9 headwater sub-watershed drains to Pope Brook and is gaged at USGS station ID 01135100. Pope Brook flows into Sleepers River and ultimately into the Connecticut River. Two models...

Water Quality,
The dataset describes mercury and dissolved organic matter concentration and quality over five synoptic sampling campaigns at 12 stream sites within the 41-hectare (ha) forested W-9 catchment at Sleepers River, Vermont, with an additional site at the downstream W-3 gage (837 ha). The five campaigns included a large (79 millimeter (mm)) fall storm, spring snowmelt, and spring, summer, and fall base flow periods. During the fall storm, the synoptic sampling was augmented with a time series of samples over the hydrograph at the W-9 weir. All samples were filtered and analyzed for mercury, methylmercury, major cations, total dissolved nitrogen, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Dissolved organic matter (DOM) was characterized...
