Gas field infrastructure elements contributing to land disturbance located in four gas fields (Continental Divide – Creston – Blue Gap (CCB), Jonah, Moxa Arch, and Pinedale Anticline Project Area) in southwestern Wyoming were collected as polygon features in ArcGIS. Classes included four types of roads, well pads (active and abandoned), residual disturbance associated with the well pads, buried utilities, disturbances associated with non-well pad industry facilities, and areas of general disturbance associated with the installation and operation of gas wells not fitting one of the other disturbance class definitions.

These are areas of special management within the Pinedale BLM Field Office. These areas are treated differently than other areas with special consideration. These areas do not fit in other management categories such as Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC), Wilderness Study Areas (WSA) or Special Recreation Management Areas (SRMA).

This data depicts range improvement projects (RIP) on BLM land in the Pinedale Field Office including type of project, located and date constructed or implemented. This data does not address condition of RIP. These projects are constructed with the objective of improving rangelands through the proper distribution of livestock.

Pygmy rabbits (Brachylagus idahoensis) are a Species of Greatest Conservation Need in Wyoming. They are designated as such because they are sagebrush obligates and entrained in the health and intactness of sagebrush steppe landscapes. Southwest Wyoming, where pygmy rabbits occur, has become an epicenter of domestic oil and gas exploration and this activity contributes to loss and fragmentation of sagebrush habitats. This tabular file that was used for analysis contains the following data/information: survey site, plot, and gas field; pygmy rabbit occupancy status; UTM coordinates associated with occupancy (dithered to protect pygmy rabbits from further disturbance); an index value indicating amount of fresh pygmy...

This feature class was created to assemble oil and gas well information for a comprehensive inventory of energy data pertinent to the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative decision-making process. These data are available as online resources for scientists, resource managers engaged in the Initiative, and other researchers. The GIS data and map services created for this study are available for interactive analysis and/or download at the Energy Geoscience Center WLCI website.

Identifying ecologically relevant reference sites is important for evaluating ecosystem recovery, but the relevance of references that are temporally static is unclear in the context of vast landscapes with disturbance and environmental contexts varying over space and time. This question is pertinent for landscapes dominated by sagebrush (Artemisia spp.) which face a suite of threats from disturbance and development but also have lengthy recovery times. Here, we applied a dynamic reference approach to studying and projecting recovery of sagebrush on former oil and gas well pads in southwestern Wyoming, USA, using over 3 decades of remote sensing data (1985–2018). We also used quantile regression to evaluate factors...

The Total Petroleum System is used in the National Assessment Project and incorporates the Assessment Unit, which is the fundamental geologic unit used for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Total Petroleum System is shown here as a geographic boundary defined and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates not only the set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations, but also the geologic interpretation of the essential elements and processes within the petroleum system that relate to source, generation, migration, accumulation, and trapping of the discovered and undiscovered petroleum resource(s).

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of province is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. This dataset is a compilation of data that has been studied and published separately, and in some cases adjacent provinces do not share a common boundary. As a consequence, there are numerous gaps and overlaps in this layer.
