This dataset details individual species and natural habitat vulnerability rankings, including contextual study-specific information. This data was collected from original publications found through a literature search. Information is cumulative to include climate change vulnerability assessment (CCVA) results summarized in Staudinger et al. (2015) and published as of December 2023.

The project team examined State Wildlife Action Plans (SWAPs) from 15 southeastern states and Puerto Rico in order to: 1) identify the various approaches used to address climate change in the recent SWAP updates, 2) highlight key commonalities and differences among the states, and 3) improve understanding of the challenges and opportunities that state agencies face as they address climate change risks. Methods included detailed review of the SWAPs and follow-up interviews with SWAP coordinators. This dataset reviews examples of climate adaptation planning tools, approaches, and resources referenced in SWAPs and interviews.
Working within the constraints of the SWAP revision timeline, we propose to advance biodiversity conservation within the region by enhancing the regional effectiveness of SWAPs and the ability of the LCC to address regional biodiversity priorities. We propose to accomplish these outcomes through engagement of SWAP coordinators and LCC professionals in the creation of a set of detailed best practices and learning resources tailored to needs that they help to identify. We will regularly engage with the SWAP coordinators as we develop these resources to allow each state to influence and employ the resources as needed, recognizing that time and resources to participate in this project will vary among states. As part...

In 2005, the US Fish and Wildlife Service began requiring that State Fish and Wildlife Agencies have an approved Wildlife Action Plan (WAP) to receive State Wildlife Grants. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) developed priority areas called Conservation Opportunity Areas (COAs) as part of their 2015 WAP (Holcomb et al. 2015). Developing COAs is recognized by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA 2012) as a best practice for targeting WAP implementation. The original process used by LDWF and their partners to define the COA boundaries relied primarily on defining and overlaying range maps for Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) listed in the WAP and resulted in 30 COAs....
