Mineral-resources geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a helicopter-supported geological and geochemical resource assessment project in the Gulkana, Healy, Mount Hayes, and Talkeetna Mountains quadrangles from July 29 through August 16, 2013. The objectives of this assessment were to improve the publicly-available geological, geophysical, and geochemical data in the area of known occurrences in the Mount Hayes Quadrangle, and to extend this coverage and any gained insight westward into the less-explored extension of the Wrangellia terrane. This program of stream-sediment, pan-concentrate, and rock sampling was conducted as part of the State's Strategic Minerals...

The State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals (SCM) Assessment project, a State-funded Capital Improvement Project (CIP), is designed to evaluate Alaska's statewide potential for SCM resources. The SCM Assessment is being implemented by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS), and involves obtaining new airborne-geophysical, geological, and geochemical data. For the geochemical part of the SCM Assessment, thousands of historical geochemical samples from DGGS, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and U.S. Bureau of Mines archives are being reanalyzed by DGGS using modern, quantitative, geochemical-analytical methods. The objective is to update the statewide geochemical database to more clearly...

40Ar/39Ar analyses were performed on igneous rocks from the Ray Mountains area of west-central Alaska. The plutonic samples have ages from about 89 Ma to 109 Ma, while the volcanic samples show ranges from about 30 Ma to 64 Ma. The three volcanic samples fall into two age groups: the younger sample, a basalt, has an age of about 30 Ma, while the two older, rhyolitic samples fall between 58 Ma and 64 Ma. Analyses were performed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geochronology Laboratory, and results were reported by Paul Layer and Jeff Benowitz. Products included in this data release are: a summary of sample collection method; the laboratory report, analytical data tables and associated metadata; and plots of...

This report and digital data release presents 82 new rock geochemical analyses on historic U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) samples. These samples were originally collected by the USBM as part of their critical and strategic minerals project, which investigated tin occurrences associated with the Ohio Creek pluton, south-central Alaska. Historic USBM sample materials were retrieved by DGGS from the DGGS Geologic Materials Center (GMC), where the USBM samples were transferred as part of the federally funded Minerals Data and Information Rescue in Alaska (MDIRA) program in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The text and analytical data and tables associated with this report are being released in digital format as PDF files...

Some of these samples were originally collected by the USBM as part of their mineral investigations in the Porcupine River drainage, northeastern Alaska, and a portion of the samples were collected as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation. Historic USBM sample materials were retrieved by DGGS from the DGGS Geologic Materials Center (GMC), where the USBM samples were transferred as part of the federally funded Minerals Data and Information Rescue...

This report presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results for igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys' (DGGS) Wrangellia Mineral Assessment project, part of a multi-year effort focusing on improving the publicly available geoscientific information for the western Wrangellia terrane. The samples described in this report were selected and analyzed to improve our understanding of the geology and structural history of the Wrangellia Mineral Assessment project area. A metagabbro rock sample returned a Late Triassic crystallization age consistent with regional ages for Nikolai Greenstone-related magmatism; however, the two amphibole separates ages do not overlap,...

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys conducted reconnaissance sampling of the William Henry Bay area in the Juneau C-4 and D-4 quadrangles, August 9-13, 2011. This sampling project was part of a statewide assessment of Alaska's potential for rare-earth element mineralization. During the William Henry Bay field project 46 rock, sediment, and heavy-mineral concentrate samples were collected for geochemical analysis (geochemical, major oxide, minor oxide, trace element, and rare earth elements).

U-Pb analyses were performed on igneous rocks from the Ray Mountains area of west-central Alaska. These new age analyses will allow us to better evaluate the geochronology of the granitic rocks that are the apparent source of the alluvial REE and tin resources. The plutonic samples have ages ranging from 98.0 +/- 0.9 Ma to 111.6 +/- 1.0 Ma. The sample location coordinates and analytical data tables associated with this report are available in digital format as comma-separated value (CSV) files.

This digital publication, GPR 2014-4, contains CGG's analysis and interpretation of data produced from airborne geophysical surveys published by DGGS in 2013 (GPR 2013-1) and 2014 (GPR 2014-5) for the Middle Styx and Farewell survey areas respectively. The two survey blocks Farewell and Middle Styx are referred to as the 'Farewell' survey in the project report as these blocks were flown under one contract. Elsewhere the separate block names, Farewell and Middle Styx, are typically used. CGG's frequency-domain DIGHEM V system was used for the EM data. GPR 2014-4 includes (1) CGG's project report with interpretation and detailed EM Anomalies, and (2) Multi-channel stacked profiles in pdf format. Interpretation maps...

Geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) Mineral Resources Section conducted four weeks of helicopter-supported mapping and fieldwork from June 26 through July 24, 2013. The Styx River project in the Lime Hills C-1 Quadrangle was part of the State-funded Airborne Geophysical/Geological Mineral Inventory (AGGMI) program as part of the State's Strategic Minerals Assessment Project, an initiative designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for rare-earth elements, PGEs, and other similarly supply-challenged resources. The Styx River project area has active and ongoing mineral exploration for deposit types including porphyry copper/molybdenum/gold, reduced intrusion-related gold, and...
