The 'Arizona #3' file is part of the Grover Heinrichs mining collection. Grover was the Vice President of Heinrichs GEOEXploration, located in Tucson, Arizona. The collection contains over 1,400 folders including economic geology reports, maps, photos, correspondence, drill logs and other related materials. The focus of much of the information is on the western United States, particularly Arizona, but the collection also includes files on mining activity throughout the United States, foreign countries, and 82 mineral commodities.

This report provides detailed mapping (1:63,360-scale) in the Dalton Highway area, from Atigun Gorge to Slope Mountain, in the west-central Philip Smith Mountains quadrangle. The map area extends from the northern flank of the Endicott Mountains into the Arctic Foothills province.
This data release presents zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS geochronology from igneous rocks exposed in a coastal exposure at Ursus Head, Iliamna C-2 Quadrangle. Sills and dikes exposed in a coastal exposure at Ursus Head are deformed within the Bruin Bay fault zone. Common dikes intruding late Triassic Kamishak Formation strata composing the hanging-wall of the Bruin Bay fault are cut by numerous small-scale, low-angle, bedding-parallel, and high angle contractional faults. Sample 09MAW006A collected from one of many dikes deformed in the fault zone produced a uni-modal distribution of zircon ages of with a weighted mean of 206.92 +/-0.96 (2 sigma, n=47) and an MSWD of 1.1. Okmok volcano, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, explosively erupted over a five-week period between July 12 and August 23, 2008. The eruption was predominantly phreatomagmatic, producing fine-grained tephra that covered most of northeastern Umnak Island. The eruption had a maximum Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 4, with eruption column heights up to 16 km during the opening phase. Several craters and a master tuff cone formed in the caldera as a result of phreatomagmatic explosions and accumulated tephra-fall and surge deposits. A 3D temperature model is constructed in order to support the estimation of physical parameters within the USGS National Crustal Model. The crustal model is defined by a geological framework consisting of various lithologies with distinct mineral compositions. A temperature model is needed to calculate mineral density and bulk and shear modulus as a function of position within the crust. These properties control seismic velocity and impedance, which are needed to accurately estimate earthquake travel times and seismic amplitudes in earthquake hazard analyses. This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Detrital record of the Late Oligocene – Early Miocene mafic volcanic arc in the Southern Patagonian Andes (~51°S) from single-clast geochronology and trace element geochemistry'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the detrital sedimentary record of the basin. The geochronology provides time constraints for the sedimentation studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Magallanes-Austral Basin, and collection was supervised by Julie Fosdick, who sent them to the USGS for Ar/Ar analysis.
This section of the data release includes core images in the format of photos (JPG) that have been compressed into a zipped file (2018LakePowellCoring_CorePhotos.zip). It is Part 4 (of four) in this data release and contains images of the cleaned archival half from split cores as they appeared immediately after splitting (late March and early April 2019). Each photo includes a ruler (in centimeters) and X-Rite ColorChecker Classic color correction card that may be used for corrections. Understanding what capacities are needed and if and or where these capacities exist across the USGS landscape is critical in moving science to the next level of use, implementation, and visualization. The concept behind the groups organized to conduct and interpret the survey that collected these data took advantage of the USGS’s position as a science organization with expertise spanning a wide range of science disciplines, stakeholders, and responsibilities. A survey was conducted of USGS employees (Sep 20-Nov 20) to get a current sample of the capacities that exist across the USGS.

This file includes strike and dip information for the area of the Stillwater Complex, located in southwestern Montana. This dataset was created from pre-existing digital strike and dip information and from digitizing strike and dip locations from georeferenced map images. The data includes information about the strike and dip locations; the geologic unit and rock type the measurement was taken on; information about the source map, such as map title and scale; and other miscellaneous information.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is situated on EAFB, approximately 7 km southwest of Boron, CA. Dataset contains digital versions of physical core logs housed in Missouri Geological Survey archives. The logs are variable in detail, ranging from simple locations and formation tops to extensive stratigraphic descriptions and chemistry. A portion were done by MGS staff; others were donated by industry, academia, and government entities. The dataset includes logs for mines or undeveloped deposits with occurrences of or potential for critical minerals, along with logs in areas with permissive geology. The dataset comprises three tables: header and location information; formation/stratigraphic top, bottom and written description; and geochemical and assay data.
Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA), located in central Alaska, is home to iconic and dynamic landscapes surrounding the tallest mountain range in North America, the Alaska Range. DENA preserves over 6 million acres of wild land that provides opportunities for recreation, subsistence hunting and gathering, preservation of cultural resources, and scientific research. This digital data release contains gridded elevation surfaces for twenty-six (26) subsurface horizons, a grid of the estimated thickness of strata eroded during the Cenozoic, and fault traces at the level of the Precambrian surface from a previously published 3D geologic model of the Anadarko Basin Province (Higley and others, 2014). In the original release of the 3D model, elevation surfaces were exported to a Zmap interchange file format, potentially limiting access to the data for users without access to specialized software. Digital surfaces and thicknesses of selected hydrogeologic units of the Floridan aquifer system were developed to define an updated hydrogeologic framework as part of the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program. This feature class contains polygons depicting low permeability units used to define the base of the Upper Floridan aquifer.
