This report presents the mineral chemistry dataset that was used in a published study of serpentinite-rich gouge from an actively creeping trace of the Bartlett Springs Fault in northern California. The fault gouge consists of porphyroclasts of antigorite serpentinite, talc, chlorite, and tremolite-actinolite in a sheared matrix of the same materials. The compositions of spinels in the serpentinite clasts (Table S1) indicate a forearc-peridotite origin for the serpentinite, consistent with a source in the Coast Range ophiolite. The other major minerals in both the porphyroclasts and matrix were analyzed (Table S2) for comparison with serpentinite-bearing gouge from the creeping section of the San Andreas Fault....

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Gondwanan inheritance on the building of the western Central Andes (Domeyko Range, Chile): Structural and thermochronological approach (U-Pb and 40Ar-39Ar)'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the sedimentation of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the sedimentation studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Domeyko Range by Mauricio Espinoza (University of Concepcion, Chile), who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.

This Data Release contains preliminary versions of three related geologic input databases for the Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands (PRVI) region (62°–70° W and 16°–21° N) of the United States: 1) A fault sections database (“NSHM2025_FaultSections_PRVI_v1’”), which depicts the geometry of faults capable of hosting independent earthquakes, 2) a fault-zone polygon database ("NSHM2025_FaultPolygons_ PRVI_v1"), which depicts the geometry of distributed fault zones capable of hosting repeated large magnitude events but a specific fault source remains unidentified, and 3) An earthquake geology site information database (“NSHM2025_EQGeoDB_ PRVI_v1”), which contains fault slip-rate and earthquake recurrence constraints...

The Central Virginia Seismic Zone (CVSZ) is an area of historically increased earthquake activity that is of particular importance due to its proximity to many well-populated regions in the Virginia Piedmont. Notably, the epicentral region of the 2011 magnitude (M)5.8 earthquake in Mineral, Virginia falls within the CVSZ (Horton and Williams, 2012), making this region relevant not just historically, but also in more recent times. Thus, the U.S. Geological Survey is focusing on detailed bedrock mapping of the central Virginia Piedmont to better understand bedrock and fault geometry, fault history, and seismic risk potential. Though the central Virginia Piedmont has been mapped to some extent in previous studies (Hopkins,...

This data release presents geologic map data for the bedrock geology of the Durango 1-degree by 2-degree quadrangle. Geologic mapping incorporates new interpretive contributions and compilation from published geologic map data sources primarily ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:50,000 scale. Much of the geology incorporated from published geologic maps is adjusted based on digital elevation model and natural-color image data sources to improve spatial resolution of the data. Spatial adjustments and new interpretations also eliminate mismatches at source map boundaries. This data set represents only the bedrock geology; deposits of unconsolidated, surficial materials that are typically, but not exclusively, Quaternary in...

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic survey over the South Pass-Granite Mountains region in central Wyoming. The airborne survey was funded by the state of Wyoming, designed by the Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS), and contracted by the USGS. The survey is aligned with the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative and was designed to meet complementary needs related to geologic mapping and characterization of mineral resource potential. A total of 47,973.8 line km of magnetic and radiometric data were acquired over an area of 8639 km2. Data were collected from a helicopter flown at a nominal terrain clearance of 100 meters (m) above topography along N-S flight...

This digital publication contains the database, base maps, and style files used to build the geologic map of the upper Santa Cruz River basin in southern Arizona published in U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3490 (Page and others, 2023). Shapefiles are also included for the user’s convenience. In the database, there are polygon features outlining the map units and data sources; line features delineating contacts, faults, and other geologic lines such as dikes, anticlines, and synclines; point features marking where there are age or structural data; and nonspatial tables in which the description of map units, data sources, and glossary information can be found. The database follows the geologic...

This collection consists of rock samples associated with the research of USGS scientist Paul Schmidt. This collection contains one pallet of geological samples, books and papers. Schmidt was a geologist, employed by the U.S. Geological Survey and worked from 1963 to 1984 at the Denver Federal Center. From 1984 to 1994 he worked at the U.S. Geological Survey Mission in Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1995.

This report includes the previously unpublished primary and derivative data sets that underpin the construction of the three dimensional (3D) geologic map of the upper part of the Earth's crust beneath the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, California. The primary data is X,Y,Z locations of stratigraphic horizons and, to a much lesser extent, geologic structures where penetrated by oil and gas wells in the subsurface as recorded in well logs and well records. The derivative data sets were constructed to more closely constrain the principal stratigraphic horizons and geologic structures that were incorporated into the 3D model. The derivative data sets are extracted from the principal data set or a combination of...

Airborne radiometric data are provided here as part of the data release "Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Columbia, South Carolina and surrounds, 2020." This website includes the processed aeroradiometric data (gamma spectrometry for K, U and Th) provided in an ascii .csv file, spectral data in a binary netcdf file that can be read using the relevant Python libraries (see example included with this release), and a geoTIFF showing a ternary image of the K, Th, and U channels. The contractor report is available on the parent page. These data were collected as part of a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over Columbia, South Carolina and the surrounding region immediately northwest...

The attached data are apatite and zircon fission track measurements from rock samples collected across the western Brooks Range. Table 1 contains descriptive information on each sample. Tables 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d and 2e contain single grain, apatite fission track age data for samples from each of five datasets that comprise the overall apatite fission track age dataset. Tables 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d contain apatite fission track length data for samples from four of the five datasets that comprise the overall apatite fission track length dataset. The oldest of the five datasets has no accompanying track length data. Table 4 contains summary information for each of the apatite fission track age samples. Table 5 contains summary...
