The US Geological Survey, in cooperation with the National Park Service, mapped 35 7.5-minute quadrangles, within a 2-mile-wide+ corridor centered on the Parkway, from BLRI (Blue Ridge Parkway) Mile Post (MP) 0 near Afton, Virginia southward to MP 218 at Cumberland Knob, approximately 1.3 km south of the Virginia – North Carolina State Line. Detailed bedrock geologic mapping for this project was conducted at 1:24,000-scale by systematically traversing roads, trails, creeks, and ridges within and adjacent to the 2-mile-wide+ corridor along the 216.9-mile length of the BLRI in Virginia. Geologic data at more than 23,000 station points were collected during this project (September 2009 – February 2014), with approximately...

This data set provides industrial-scale onshore wind turbine locations, corresponding facility information, and turbine technical specifications, in the United States to March 2014. The database has nearly 49,000 wind turbine records that have been collected, digitized, locationally verified, and internally quality assured and quality controlled. Turbines from the Federal Aviation Administration Digital Obstacle File, product date March 2, 2014, were used as the primary source of turbine data points. Verification of the position of turbines was done by visual interpretation using high-resolution aerial imagery in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop. Turbines without Federal Aviation Administration Obstacle Repository System (FAA...

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is the Federal standard for geographic nomenclature. The U.S. Geological Survey developed the GNIS for the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, a Federal inter-agency body chartered by public law to maintain uniform feature name usage throughout the Government and to promulgate standard names to the public. The GNIS is the official repository of domestic geographic names data; the official vehicle for geographic names use by all departments of the Federal Government; and the source for applying geographic names to Federal electronic and printed products of all types. See http://geonames.usgs.gov for additional information.

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. From July 2019 to June 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Missouri Department...

Geographic relationships among energy infrastructure development, regional economic linkages, and the environment is crucial for understanding the impacts of Appalachian energy extraction activities and for regional planning efforts focused on the ecosystem services that may be affected. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) provides impartial and independent data on the nation’s energy infrastructure, its sources, flows, and end uses, as well as forecasts and outlooks. Location information for specific extraction activities, as well as power plants and other supply chain components, can help reveal the regional nature of specific impacts and the often large distances between those effects and end-use...

The locations of approximately 26,000 current and historical U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) surface-water monitoring gaging stations have been indexed to the NHDPlus Version 2.1 stream network. Part of the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS), these gaging stations measure water flow and water levels in streams and lakes. The NHDPlus V2 stream network locations for these gaging stations differ from stations' latitude/longitude provided in NWIS. The NWIS coordinates are frequently not coincidenet with the NHDPlus stream network.

This geodatabase of point, line and polygon features is an effort to consolidate all of the range improvement locations on BLM-managed land in Idaho into one database. Currently, the point feature class only has range improvements from Boise District (Four Rivers, Owyhee, and Bruneau Field Offices), Twin Falls District (Shoshone, Burley and Jarbidge Field Offices) and Idaho Falls District (Salmon, Challis and Upper Snake Field Offices). Range improvements are structures intended to enhance rangeland resources, including wildlife, watershed, and livestock management. Examples of range improvements include water troughs, spring headboxes, culverts, fences, water pipelines, gates, wildlife guzzlers, artificial nest...

This USGS data release presents tabular data and a model archive used to estimate seepage rates at 19 locations on the Truckee Canal for the 2018 and 2019 irrigation seasons. This supplemental data release consists of two child items: (1) Model archive of two-dimensional variably saturated heat and flow models (VS2DH) used to examine seepage rates in the Truckee Canal at 19 transect locations (model archive), and (2) Tabular data of site locations, sediment and water temperature, and canal head or stage in the Truckee Canal (tabular data).

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) and depth-averaged velocities in ASCII format, generated from hydrographic and velocimetric surveys near highway bridge structures over the Missouri River in Kansas City, Missouri, in August 2019, as well as special surveys at two of the sites in August and October 2020 before and after installation of scour countermeasures. Hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation system (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Data were collected as the vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines distributed throughout...
