This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in the conterminous United States. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). Certain wetland habitats are excluded from the National mapping program because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deepwater reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth,...

Due to the quantity and complexity of the data, wetlands and riparian data only displays at 1:250,000 scale and greater. For wetland information visit www.fws.gov/wetlands/The original wetland maps were produced as topical overlays using U.S. Geological Survey topographic maps as the base. Thus, the data are intended for use in publications, at a scale of 1:24,000 or smaller. Due to the scale, the primary intended use is for regional and watershed data display and analysis, rather than specific project data analysis. The wetlands data were neither designed nor intended to represent legal or regulatory products. These data were developed in conjunction with the Cowardin et al. publication (Cowardin, L.M., V. Carter,...
This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in Arizona. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. This tabular data set represents the presence of six National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) high resolution waterbody types compiled for two spatial components of the NHDPlus version 2 data suite (NHDPlusv2) for the conterminous United States; 1) individual reach catchments and 2) reach catchments accumulated upstream through the river network. The six types of waterbodies presented here are: playa, ice mass, lake/pond, reservoir, swamp/marsh, and estuary. This dataset can be linked to the NHDPlus version 2 data suite by the unique identifier COMID. The source data is the NHDPlus high resolution waterbodies produced by USGS , 2015. Units are percent. Reach catchment information characterizes data at the local scale....

The goal of the National Wetlands Inventory is to provide the citizens of the United States and its Trust Territories with current geospatially referenced information on the status, extent, characteristics and functions of wetland, riparian, deepwater and related aquatic habitats in priority areas to promote the understanding and conservation of these resources. With growing interest in riparian habitats in the western U.S., the Service undertook early riparian mapping projects for several agencies in Arizona in the early 1990s. Additional projects were conducted for the National Park Service in Nevada, and the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming. Each project included a variety of definitions, classifications,...
