Wide shallow lakes of fresh water dotted the ice island. This photo shows Dave Scoboria, USGS field employee walking in one of the ice lakes in early July 1969.

Typed information accompanying photograph: Slide and Print. Abandoned hut on an ice pillar. Note: T-3 Photographs - Roll A - Color slides February - March 1969. These photos were taken during February and March of 1969 and developed into Ektachrome slides in May of 1969. Some have deteroriated. When the slides were new some of them were printed as color prints. Some prints don't have matching slides. A few slides were copied as Kodacolor slides some time during the 1970s and there are some duplicate slides. The Kodacolor slides have not deteriorated. Some images are missing. Typed information accompanying photograph: Slide and print: Steve Teeter, Lamont field employee on the tower of the Lamont hydrohut. I believe that he had to go to the top of the tower to adjust an antenna. It made a good platform from which to take photos. Note: T-3 Photographs - Roll B - Color slides April 1969. These photos were developed into Ektachrome slides in May of 1969. Some have deteriorated. Some were printed as color prints and these may be in better condition than the slides. A few slides were copied into Kodacolor slides. Some images are missing. Photos by Dave Scoboria.

Typed information accompanying photograph: Print and slide. There was a three day period in March 1969 when diesel fuel was brought to T-3 on C-130 planes. These flew numerous trips and everyone on the ice island worked in shifts to unload the planes. Note: T-3 Photographs - Roll A - Color slides February - March 1969. These photos were taken during February and March of 1969 and developed into Ektachrome slides in May of 1969 and developed into Ektachrome slides in May of 1969. Some have deteriorated. When the slides were new some of them were printed as color prints. Some prints don't have matching slides. Caption: Heat flow measurements were taken through an ice hole sheltered by the U.S. Geological Survey's Hydrohut, here shown in April 1969. The hydrohut was tall at one end to accommodate extracting a 3 to 4 meter-long piston corer/heat flow probe using a winch system. Pressure ridges developed in the pack ice adjacent to the T-3 glacial ice are visible in the background. Photo by D. Scoboria, USGS. Note: Dave Scoboria was a USGS field assistant (and the only USGS presence on the island--solely responsible for the measurements) for part of 1968 and 1969.
