Density (km / km^2) of all roads in the western United States. Dataset was developed to generalize the 2000 US Census TIGER/Line Roads layer to a density within 18km of each pixel. Obtained from 2000 US Census TIGER/Line Roads using LINEDENSITY with an 18km search radius.

This is a map of populated areas with population density greater than or equal to 1 individual/ ha (i.e., rural/exurban but including suburban and urban as defined by Marzluff et al. 2001) as determined from U.S. Census data corrected for public lands.

This dataset is one from a series of transporation layers are derived from the US Census Bureau Tiger 2K (June 7, 2002 Version) information. All the layers are statewide and are arranged by their major Census Feature Class Code (CFCC). All data layers are reprojected into the CaSIL standard projection, and only a small subset of the attribution is included. Zip Code, and address information is NOT included. CaSIL has divided these transportation layers to help users choose the appropriate level of detail for their project. Users requiring further TIGER information, are encouraged to use the native TIGER files (also on CaSIL) or directly from the Census Bureau.

This map of human habitation was developed, following a modification of Schumacher et al. (2000), by incorporating 2000 U.S Census Data and land ownership. The 2000 U.S. Census Block data and ownership map of the western United States were used to correct the population density for uninhabited public lands. All census blocks in the western United States were merged into one shapefile which was then clipped to contain only those areas found on private or indian reservation lands because human habitation on federal land is negligible. The area (ha) for each corrected polygon was calculated and the 2000 census block data table was joined to the shapefile. In a new field, population density (individuals/ha) corrected...

TIGER, TIGER/Line, and Census TIGER are registered trademarks of the Bureau of the Census. The Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census TIGER data base. The geographic coverage for a single TIGER/Line file is a county or statistical equivalent entity, with the coverage area based on January 1, 2000 legal boundaries. A complete set of Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files includes all counties and statistically equivalent entities in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files will not include files for the Island Areas. The Census TIGER data base represents a seamless national file with...
