This map depicts the density of "More Resilient" cells (defined as the top two quintiles from the stratified resilience dataset) within a 3-km radius of every cell. This provides important additional context when making land protection or restoration decisions. Cells with higher density values are embedded in a larger resilient landscape. These areas are more likely to support biodiversity and ecological function over time in a changing climate. The Science and Policy of the First Environmental Flows to the Colorado River Delta The first transboundary flow of water for the environment was delivered to the Colorado River Delta in spring of 2014. This engineered mini-spring flood of 130 million cubic meters (105,000 acre-feet) was implemented as part of Minute 319, an addition to the 1944 U.S.-Mexico Water Treaty. The National Park Service (NPS), in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), has implemented a program to "develop a uniform hierarchical vegetation methodology" at a national level. The program will also create a geographic information system (GIS) database for the parks under its management. Number of harmful species that have invaded freshwater habitats, by freshwater ecoregion. The occurrence and ecological impact for freshwater invasive species were compiled in a geographically referenced database according to the methods of Molnar et al. (2008). Information about 550 species was systematically collected from a wide variety of global, regional, national, and subnational data sources. Area of coral reefs (square kilometers), by marine ecoregion. We extracted coral reefs from version 7.0 of the global one-kilometer raster data set compiled by the UNEP-WCMC update of 2003 (for more information about the source data set, e-mail spatialanalysis@unep-wcmc.org), which is almost entirely identical to the data published in the World Atlas of Coral Reefs (Spalding et al. 2001). They represent a combination of line and polygon information converted to a one-kilometer grid to smooth data originally drawn at different scales. Relative abundance of kelp forest habitat, by marine province. We developed estimates of abundance of kelp forests. Originally we gathered this information at an ecoregional scale, but we decided to summarize to province due to concerns about fine-scale accuracy. Percent of ecoregion area that is arable and not yet converted. We developed the map of arable land not yet converted to agriculture from data provided by Fischer et al. (2002). Our map was produced by modeling the moderate- to high-yielding climate-soil envelopes for nine major world crops and projecting those areas geographically in regions that are not classified as urban or agricultural by JRC (2003). It represented rain-fed agriculture only, so the area of arable land is likely underestimated. It also does not account for changing future demands for irrigated agriculture that are driven by national policy and finance. Dominant type of groundwater aquifer, by freshwater ecoregion. We derived the dominant groundwater features from the Groundwater Resources of the World data set, a product of the World-wide Hydrogeological Mapping and Assessment Programme (WHYMAP) (Struckmeir and Richts 2007). The WHYMAP Groundwater feature containing the largest surface area within an ecoregion was deemed the dominant feature. Groundwater classes are equivalent to classes stated in the WHYMAP data set. Number of seabird species, by marine ecoregion. Using the distribution maps for seabirds from Harrison (1983), we visually mapped each of the 312 seabirds to one or more marine ecoregions. Only breeding ranges (including breeding sites) were used; migration routes and casual or vagrant records were excluded. These data were derived by The Nature Conservancy, and were displayed in a map published in The Atlas of Global Conservation (Hoekstra et al., University of California Press, 2010). This data set includes tables providing location, environmental, vegetation, soils, and carbon sampling data collected in 2015 and 2016 at vegetation sampling units on restored areas and other habitats at sites in northeast Indiana, USA. "Sample_units.txt" provides location, environmental, soil physical and chemical properties for each sample location.
