Index No: MRTN10049; Collected By: Thomas B. Nolan; Sample Type: hand sample; thin section; Notes: Location taken from Tonopah Extension Mine shaft; Dark green, glassy, contact phase. The rock is a coarse breccia. Character of matrix material is doubtful, since there seems to be relatively little of it. In some places it appears to be dark green with abundant small white specks unevenly distributed in it. Elsewhere it is dense and reddish gray and possibly quartz bearing. The included fragments are all large, up to 10 cm, and consist of white tuffaceous rock with outlines of feldspar phenocrysts distinguishable. Other inclusions are of banded GT and others of a greenish-gray andesitic character. Relations are not...
Index No: MRTN100510; Collected By: Thomas B. Nolan; Sample Type: hand sample; thin section; Notes: Location taken from Tonopah Extension Mine shaft; Dull, light greenish-gray rock with numerous dull white phenocrysts. thin section cracked.
Index No: MRTN100670; Collected By: Thomas B. Nolan; Sample Type: hand sample; thin section; Notes: Location taken from Tonopah Extension Mine shaft; Breccia interbedded with so-called trachyte. This is a rather fine-grained breccia, the largest fragments only about 1/2 cm. Fragments consist of a white kaolinized rock while the matrix is light green and much silicified. Fragments are numerous, angular and generally equigranular. Rather clastic rock with numerous fragments of quartz and orthoclase in a mass of fine-grained orthoclase, quartz and sericite. Pyrite is present throuout.
