Water, bed sediment, and invertebrate tissue were sampled in streams from Butte to near Missoula, Montana (MT), as part of a long-term monitoring program within the Upper Clark Fork Basin. The sampling program was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to characterize aquatic resources in the Upper Clark Fork Basin and monitor trace elements associated with historical mining and smelting activities. Sampling sites were on the Clark Fork River and a subset of its tributaries. Water samples were collected periodically at 21 sites from October 2020 through September 2021. Bed-sediment and tissue samples were collected once at 13 sites in July 2021. Water-quality...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release is focused on the geochemistry of wastewater (including flowback and produced water) samples, co-produced with natural gas, collected from the Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment Laboratory (MSEEL) site. MSEEL is a long-term field site and laboratory at the Northeast Natural Energy LLC (NNE) production facility, adjacent to the Monongahela River, located in western Monongalia County, West Virginia, USA. NNE began drilling two horizontal production wells, MIP (Morgantown Industrial Park) -5H and MIP-3H, in the Marcellus Shale in 2014. The wells were completed in December 2015. Large volumes of wastewater are generated with natural gas production. These wastewaters...

This collection consists of rock samples associated with the research of USGS scientist Alfred Miesch. Miesch was an early contributor to USGS geochemistry research and many of these samples are associated with his research. In 1953 Dr. Miesch began a 33-year career with the Survey. His work in Grand Junction, CO involved research on the distribution of minor elements in association with uranium on the Colorado Plateau. He moved to Denver in 1959 where he continued his work on element distributions in rocks, soils, and plants, ultimately becoming Chief of the Branch of Geochemical Census, which he later renamed Branch of Regional Geochemistry. In this capacity he began a working relationship with scientists in the...

This data release contains analytical data and images for a suite of drill core samples from the Mineral Hill alkaline complex (MHAC), northeastern Wyoming. Geochemistry data include major and trace element analytical results for 103 alkaline igneous rock samples. Images include hand sample photographs of halved core and full thin section images captured in transmitted, plane-polarized and cross-polarized light. Samples are from two core holes drilled by Humble Oil Company in 1970, and subsequently acquired and stored by Felix Mutschler at Eastern Washington University. The two skeletonized (incomplete) drill cores were acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Spokane office...
