This map layer portrays a selected set of information that was collected for the 2007 Census of Agriculture by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. There are 25 categories of data which include information about farms, crops, livestock, values of products, and farm operator characteristics. The data is for the United States and is presented by county. This is a replacement for the June 2005 Agriculture Census of the United States – 2002 map layer.

Lines coincident with Congressional District boundaries were extracted from the existing National Atlas County Boundaries layer. This data set portrays election results, by counties for 49 States and by election districts for Alaska, for the 2004 Presidential general election. Reported for each county are the popular vote count for the Democratic Party candidate, the Republican Party candidate, and all other votes. Also reported are the percentage of the vote cast for each party’s candidate, based on the total number of valid votes cast. Over votes (ballots which contained votes for more than one candidate) and under votes (ballots which contained votes for no candidate) are not included in the total number of votes reported. The vegetation units on this map were determined through a series of image processing steps including unsupervised classification, ecological modeling and stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling and ecological analysis. The vegetation boundaries were identified on the photographs by means of the photographic signature and collateral information on slope, hydrology, geography, and vegetation in accordance with the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). The mapped vegetation reflects conditions that existed during the specific year and season that the aerial photographs were taken. This dataset shows the predicted area of high fire potential for the current year up to the end of the forecast period as simulated by a modified version of the MC1 Dynamic General Vegetation Model (DGVM). The area of high fire potential is where PDSI and MC1-calculated values of potential fire behavior (fireline intensity for forest and shrubland and rate of spread of spread for grassland) exceed calibrated threshold values. Potential fire behavior in MC1 is estimated using National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) formulas, monthly climatic (temperature, precipitation, and relative humidity) data, and fuel moisture and loading estimates. Vegetation types from Kuchler (1975) potential vegetation map were aggregated into 35 classes as part of the VEMAP project (Vegetation/Ecosystem Modeling and Analysis Project, Kittel et al. 1995). Functional vegetation types were reclassified (grouped in ArcMap) by the Conservation Biology Institute to reflect the classification scheme used by Brendan Rogers.

Ken Ferschweiler (CBI) used climate data from the PRISM group (Chris Daly, Oregon State University) at 4kmx4km spatial grain across the conterminous USA to generate a climatology or baseline. He then created future climate change scenarios using statistical downscaling and created anomalies from the Hadley CM3 General Circulation Model (GCM) run through the A2 emission scenario (SRES - special report on emission scenarios published in 2000). To run the MAPSS model (Neilson 1995), average monthly precipitation values were calculated for the period 2045-2060. This dataset shows the standard deviation of the annual precipitation for that period.

This dataset corresponds to statistically downscaled and reprojected GCM-driven RegCM3 (regional climate model) future projections. Data were bias corrected using the delta/anomaly method whereby the difference between future and historical projections from RegCM3 were calculated, reprojected and downscaled using linear interpolation to then modify a PRISM model generated historical baseline (1968-1999).

Soil maps for the State Soil Geographic Database (STATSGO) were developed by the NRCS. Detailed county-level soil survey data were generalized into state based coverages and each state edge-matched to form a seamless nation-wide database for soils. The mapping scale for STATSGO is 1:250,000 (with the exception of alaska, which is 1:1,000,000). The level of mapping is designed to be used for broad planning and management covering state, regional, and multi-state areas. STATSGO data are available for the conterminous U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. This set of soils data consists of mineral depth, and three layers each of sand, clay, and rock fragment fractions. The soils data were obtained from Kern (2000), using methodology from Kern (1995) with corrected inconsistencies and gap filling from NRCS (1994).

Sediment samples and samples for water-toxicity testing were collected during 2014 from several streams in San Antonio, Texas known locally as the Westside creeks (Alazán, Apache, Martínez, and San Pedro Creeks) and from the San Antonio River. Samples were collected once during base-flow and again after periods of storm-water runoff (post-storm conditions) to determine baseline sediment- and water-quality conditions. Streambed-sediment samples were analyzed for selected constituents, including trace elements and organic contaminants such as pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), brominated flame retardants, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
