This metadata is for the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial database for Zion National Park and surrounding areas. The project is authorized as part of the USGS/NPS Vegetation Mapping Program. The program is being administered by the Biological Resources Division (BRD), United States Geological Survey (USGS). The USGS/BRD is responsible for overall management and oversight of all ongoing mapping efforts. This mapping effort was performed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's (USBR) Remote Sensing and GIS Group, Technical Service Center, Denver, Colorado and NatureServe (formally The Nature Conservancy). The vegetation mapping program is part of a larger Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) program started by the National...

This polygon feature class represents the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial data for Cedar Breaks National Monument (CEBR) and surrounding areas. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Original lines were provided by the USGS created by using a segmentation routine with eCognition software. The segmented lines were edited and re-drawn using photo interpretation (PI) techniques on 2002 aerial photography. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, soils, geography, and ground-collected vegetation information. The minimum mapping unit was 1/2 hectare. The attributed vegetation classes...

This polygon feature class represents the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial data for Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA) and surrounding areas. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Polygons were created on screen by digitizing of vegetation map types using 2002 imagery flown for the vegetation mapping project. Hard copy 9x9 photography was used for photo interpretation as well. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, soils, geography, and ground-collected...
