The U.S. Geological Survey is developing national water-use models to support water resources management in the United States. Model benefits include a nationally consistent estimation approach, greater temporal and spatial resolution of estimates, efficient and automated updates of results, and capabilities to forecast water use into the future and assess model uncertainty. This data release contains data used in a machine learning model to estimate monthly water use for communities that are supplied by public-supply water systems in the conterminous United States for 2000-2020. This data release also contains associated scripts used to produce input features as well as model output values by 12-digit hydrologic...

Africa terrestrial ecosystems were modeled using a biophysical stratification approach based on mapping the major structural components of ecosystems. New 90 meter base resolution continental datasets were developed for several key physical environment datalayers including coastlines, land surface forms, surficial lithology, and bioclimates. These unique physical components, considered as the fundamental building blocks of ecosystems, were reviewed by regional vegetation and landscape ecology experts and used in a classification and regression tree (CART) inductive model to map intermediate scale Africa terrestrial ecosystems. In the final dataset a total of 126 terrestrial ecosystem types were mapped, each with...

Geochemical data include major, minor and trace element results for 42 alkaline silicate igneous rock samples. Samples were collected from natural exposures/outcrops during field work in the Central Montana Alkaline Province (CMAP) during the summer of 2022. All samples were analyzed by the U.S. Geological Survey contract laboratory, SGS Labs. Major, minor, and trace elements were determined via wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Additional analytes determined were carbonate carbon by combustion and infrared detection (IR); gold, platinum, and palladium by lead fusion fire...

This data release presents the major and trace element chemistry of rock samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surface exposures of the Dora Bay igneous complex (DBIC), located in the southern part of Prince of Wales Island, southeastern Alaska. The DBIC is Early Jurassic in age (Bala and others, 2014) and is U-Th-heavy rare earth element (HREE)-enriched like the Bokan Mountain intrusive complex 30 km to the south (Philpotts and others 1998; Dostal and others, 2011; Taylor and others, 2016; 2017). However, the DBIC is significantly less-well-mineralized and is under-explored due to complicated private land status issues. HREE-enriched eudialyte-bearing pegmatites and felsic dikes have been...

Whole-rock and calcite geochemical data are reported for twelve carbonatite samples collected from the Bear Lodge alkaline complex, Wyoming and from the Mountain Pass mine, California. Calcite geochemical data was collected using electron microprobe and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analyses. Reported whole-rock data was measured by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), ion selective electrode-fluoride (ISE-F), and wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF). Geochemical data are presented in downloadable .csv files. Spatial data of sample collection sites are provided as polygons in...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) modeled the distribution of terrestrial ecosystems for the contiguous United States using a standardized, deductive approach to associate unique physical environments with ecological systems characterized in NatureServe's Ecological Systems of the United States classification (Comer et al., 2003). This approach was first developed for South America (Sayre et al., 2008) and is now being implemented...
