Observations (reduced to detected/not detected) of 45 vertebrate species (seven mammals, seven amphibians, and 31 reptiles) across Southern California pitfall sampling projects conducted between 1995 through 2015. Habitat patch locations of every pitfall sampling project presented in a shapefile. Habitat patches were measured based on the size when pitfall sampling began within each. Sampling projects within the same geographic area may have different sized patches based on date of project sampling and if patch erosion occurred. A matrix of whether each species was expected within each habitat patch's species pool based on range maps and published records is also included. These data support the following publication:...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board collected produced water and gas samples in the Oxnard Oil Field in Ventura County in August 2018 and the Placerita Oil Field in Los Angeles County in December 2018. Sampled sites included oil wells; injectate from tanks, pipelines, and injection wells where produced water from many wells, after removal of oil, is stored or transported prior to underground injection; and integrated produced water from many oil wells collected from pipelines before oil removal. This digital dataset contains the site information, analyzing laboratories and methods, and water and gas chemistry and quality-control results for these...

In cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board’s oil and gas Regional Monitoring Program, the U.S. Geological Survey collected and analyzed groundwater and associated quality control (QC) samples during June 2017 – August 2017. Groundwater samples were collected from one public supply well, four monitoring wells, and nine irrigation wells located within a three- mile buffer zone overlying and surrounding the Oxnard oil field administrative boundary in Ventura County, California. Samples were collected using established groundwater data-collection protocols and procedures. Samples were analyzed for water-quality indicators, major and minor ions, nutrients, trace elements, volatile organic...

This Data Release summarizes measurements of hydraulic and physical properties of soils and ash at sites in the area impacted by the 2017 Thomas Fire, USA. Physical properties include dry bulk density, loss on ignition, and saturated soil water content. Hydraulic properties include field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, sorptivity, Green-Ampt wetting front potential, and soil water retention. These measurements provide a foundation to reduce uncertainty of parameters in hydrologic models used to predict water-related hazards, water quality, and water quantity. Note that all methods of data acquisition and processing, column headings, and data annotations are explained in the metadata files.

These data provide observations of food items observed held by anterior foot of black abalone (presumably for feeding) at 9 different sites in the rocky intertidal zone around San Nicolas Island, California. Observations were made at low tide while censusing the population on permanently marked transects over a 26 year time period. Also included are some associated abalone size data.

This habitat model was developed to delineate suitable habitat for coastal cactus wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus) in southern California. A primary purpose of the model is to identify potential restoration sites that may not currently support cactus patches required by wrens, but which are otherwise highly suitable. These are areas that could be planted with cactus to increase wren populations, an important management objective for many land managers. We used the Partitioned Mahalanobis D2 modeling technique to construct alternative models with different combinations of environmental variables. Variables were calculated at each point in the center of a 150 m x 150 m cell in a grid of points across the landscape....

This habitat model was developed to delineate a sampling frame for regional monitoring of coastal California gnatcatchers (Polioptila californica californica) to determine: 1) percent area occupied (PAO) in high and very high suitability habitat across conserved lands and participating military lands in the U.S. range in southern California; 2) changes in PAO over time; and 3) extinction and colonization rates. One purpose of the model is to identify areas recovering from disturbance, such as wildfire, that may not currently support coastal sage scrub vegetation used by coastal California gnatcatchers, but are otherwise highly suitable. In this way, we can monitor gnatcatcher occupancy associated with habitat changes...

This data release contains 43 chirp sub-bottom profiles that were collected in November of 2014 from the Catalina and Santa Cruz Basins offshore southern California by the U.S. Geological Survey Pacific and Coastal Marine Science Center. Data were collected aboard the University of California’s R/V Robert Gordon Sproul on USGS cruise 2014-645-FA. Chirp profiles were collected to assess earthquake and submarine landslide hazards offshore southern California.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) used the Borehole data to characterize the hydrogeology in the Central Valley of California for the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2). These data encompass the inputs and outputs for the three-dimensional (3D) hydrogeologic Framework for the Central Valley, California, a part of the Central Valley Hydraulic Framework version 2 (CVHM2) project. These files include the shapefiles with flow layers (Flow_model_grid.zip), a scatter dataset of the modeled Central Valley (PercentCoarse_CV_50ft.csv), and the well log information and kriging parameters for the Central Valley (Kriging_Table.xlxs).

This data release has been deprecated. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9ETQ00R The U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment-Priority Basin Project (USGS GAMA-PBP) collected samples to be analyzed for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from domestic and public supply wells from May 2019 to June 2021. The datasets presented here include identification of the 28 PFAS constituents monitored by the project, Identification and brief characterization of the 395 GAMA-PBP wells for which samples were analyzed for PFAS during the study period, and analytical results for those groundwater samples, along with results for quality control samples.

These data encompass data classified from the borehole textures. The U.S Geological Survey (USGS) classified the Well Log Database of the Central Valley, California, 2021, into Central_Valley_Borehole_with_Lithology_Classification.csv. Lithologic log descriptions served as the basis for division into discrete binary texture classifications of either “coarse grained” or “fine grained” intervals. Values of 1 (coarse grained), 0 (fine grained) or 2 (unknown) were determined using the table found in Central_Valley_Lithology_Classifier.csv. Percent Coarse values for each well log were calculated at 15.24 m for the entire Central valley (Percent_Coarse_meters_wells.csv).

This digital dataset contains the monthly inflows to the surface water network in the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) for water years 1922-2019. The surface water inflows are simulated through the Streamflow Routing Package (SFR2) using 65 inflows locations, 271 stream segments that represent 4043 stream reaches, and 13 bifurcations that comprise the stream network. The bifurcations simulate the bypass canals that are used for flood control by routing water between two stream reach locations within the stream network. This dataset includes the inflow and bifurcation locations, monthly magnitude, and shapefiles of the gridded and non-gridded stream network.

This digital dataset contains the monthly diversions from the surface water network in the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) for water years 1922-2019. The volume of water transported by surface-water diversions were updated in the CVHM2 from several sources, including: • The C2VSIM developed by DWR, • The WestSIM model, • Delta Mendota Canal turnout delivery data obtained from SLDMWA, • Delta delivery data obtained from Montgomery Watson. The surface water diversions are simulated through the Streamflow Routing Package (SFR2) using 571 diversion locations providing 564 semi-routed and 7 non-routed diversions. Linkages between SFR2 and the Farm-Process (FMP4) simulate the semi-routed and non-routed...
