This collection is composed of whole-rock and EPMA tephra glass averages geochemical analyses of rocks from Alaskan volcanoes. Most of the data is from published papers, and some of it is unpublished data from AVO. It is contain analyses for approximately 13,000 samples. Nearly all of the collection is stored in a relational database; the collection is published and searchable at https://avo.alaska.edu/geochem/

This release presents the GIS data (in GDB, shapefile, and e00 [coverage] formats) and metadata for a 1:24,000-scale geologic map of the Poncha Pass area in central Colorado. A cartographic version of the geologic map, including map unit descriptions, interpretative text, and accessory figures and tables, is being separately published as a U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map (SIM). The 2018 eruption from the lower East Rift Zone of Kīlauea volcano, on the Island of Hawaiʻi, was one of the most significant and destructive events on the volcano in the past 200 years (Neal and others, 2019; Patrick and others, 2020; Anderson and others, 2023; Mulliken and others, 2024). Between May and September of that year, 24 fissures opened on the lower flank of the volcano, producing lava fountains and expansive lava flows that covered an area of 36 km2 (Neal and others, 2019; Zoeller and others, 2020). This dataset is the assembled analytical results of geochemical, petrographic, and geochronologic data for samples, principally those of unmineralized Tertiary volcanic rocks, from the Tonopah, Divide, and Goldfield mining districts of west-central Nevada. Much of the data presented here for the Tonopah and Divide districts are for samples collected by Bonham and Garside (1979) during geologic mapping in and around those districts, whereas much of that for samples from the Goldfield district were obtained by Ashley (1974; 1979; 1990). Following the 2018 collapses of the caldera floor at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano (Anderson and others, 2019; Neal and others, 2019), the enlarged and deepened depression hosted a variety of volcanic activity between 2019 and 2022. These events included an unprecedented water lake and two prolonged episodes of lava lake activity. This data release includes images from a stationary thermal camera poised on the western caldera rim, with the camera providing a continuous record of the summit changes over this period. We depict changing eruptive features within the summit caldera of Kīlauea volcano, Island of Hawaiʻi with rapid-response digital elevation models (DEMs) acquired since a series of caldera-filling effusive eruptions began on December 20, 2020. These eruptions follow the caldera collapse of 2018, with new lava progressively filling the approximately 1-cubic-kilometer pit that formed between May and August of that year. The database for the Preliminary Geologic Map of the Cherry Hill Quadrangle, Dinwiddie, Sussex, and Greensville Counties, Virginia geographically straddles the Coastal Plain and Piedmont Provinces along the Tidewater Fall Line. The Blue Ridge belt in northwestern North Carolina and northeastern Tennessee is composed chiefly of 1,000-million to 1,100-million-year-old metamorphic and plutonic rocks that have been thrust many miles northwestward across unmetamorphosed Cambrian(?) and Cambrian sedimentary rocks of the Unaka belt. The Blue Ridge thrust sheet is rooted on the southeast along the Brevard zone, a zone of strike-slip faulting along which metamorphic and plutonic rocks of the Inner Piedmont belt are juxtaposed with rocks of the Blue Ridge. This data release contains geochemical data from selected U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) projects from the 1960s-1980s that were previously unpublished as digital data. The objective of those projects was to describe the geology, determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics, or to evaluate the mineral resource potential of Federal Lands and adjacent study areas. This Data Release accompanies the planned publication, "Paleogene sedimentary basin development in southern Nevada, USA." Included here are U-Pb detrital zircon and Ar/Ar feldspar geochronologic data for middle Cenozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks collected by Jens-Erik Lundstern and Theresa M. Schwartz in several parts of southern Nevada, U.S. The target strata are the lowest Cenozoic sedimentary rocks deposited above the base-Cenozoic unconformity. U-Pb detrital zircon data were obtained at the University of Arizona LaserChron Center in Tucson, Arizona in February 2021, October 2021, and January 2023. 40Ar/39Ar geochronologic data were collected at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado.
