A total of 27 temperature sensors were deployed along the lower 90 miles of the Yakima River at 7 locations where cold water had been previously observed. These 7 cold-water areas had 3 to 6 temperature sensors installed to document the extent and duration of these cold-water areas and their impacts on mainstem temperatures of the Lower Yakima River. Cold-water areas included the mouths of tributaries, alongside channels, and within alcoves. Sensor deployments ranged from 1 to 2 years beginning in October 2018. All temperature data are included in the Yakima.temperatures.zip folder. Details of each monitoring location are provided in the site.locs.csv file. In addition to the raw data and site location information,...

This release contains data collected to study the impacts of vegetation removal on the condition of Lake Ozette Sockeye spawning habitat. From October 2018 to May 2019, continuous sediment temperature and subsurface dissolved oxygen were collected at sites near Olsen's Beach on the eastern shore of Lake Ozette, WA. Data were collected from 3 sites; a spawning control (SC) where sockeye currently return to spawn; a vegetation control (VC) where nearshore vegetation inhibits the amount of sockeye spawning; and a vegetation treatment (TR) area where nearshore vegetation was manually removed to assess if habitat quality can be improved. In addition to the continuous data, particle size data from the nearshore were determined...

All FRCC calculations were done in ArcGIS 9.3.1 with the FRCC Mapping Tool version 2.2.0, using Landfire Biophysical Settings (BpS) and Succession Class (S-Class) layers and the default Landfire Reference Condition table (LFnat_west). All calculations were performed at a 30-meter resolution. Input BpS and S-Class layers were downloaded using the Landfire Data Access Tool version 2.2 (configuration database version 1.27, feature database version 1.02). Three landscape levels were used in all calculations, the 4th, 5th and 6th field HUCs from the "Pacific NW Sixth Field Hucs" GIS layer from Bonneville Power Administration (Subbasins, Watersheds and Subwatersheds, resp.). FRCC Calculation Procedure For each of the...

This release is an update to the online "Quaternary fault and fold database" for Washington State. The online database was last updated for Washington in 2014 – this 2020 update includes newly identified and modified traces and geometries for on-shore faults gleaned from new peer-reviewed studies and mapping of active faults within the state of Washington. These data contain lines representing the location of faults with known or suspected Quaternary (<1,600,000 yrs) activity in the state of Washington. This data was compiled in conjunction with the Washington State Geological Survey. Faults are attributed following the Quaternary fault and fold database attributes, including information such as age, slip sense,...

Records in this collection are classified into one of four categories that best characterizes the data contained within the borehole record. The classifications are: Geotechnical: Boreholes and pits created with the intent to gain a detailed understanding of the subsurface lithology and soil or rock properties therein. These records have additional data beyond lithologic descriptions including penetrometer resistance, shear and strength tests, density measurements, etc. Lithologic borings: Boreholes are drill solely for the purpose of identifying subsurface lithology. Material testing techniques were not used (or the results are not provided) to allow for a more detailed understanding of subsurface material properties....

This dataset includes continuous dissolved oxygen and temperature data from the nearshore of Lake Ozette, WA. Data were collected using a HOBO (U26-001) dissolved oxygen/temperature sensor housed inside a self-contained PVC well screen installed to a depth of 15cm in the lakebed. Data was collected continuously from October 2018 to May 2019. This data was part of a project that studied the impact of removing nearshore vegetation on the quality of spawning habitat of native Lake Ozette sockeye. The study area consisted of 3 areas where dissolved oxygen and temperature were collected. A spawning control (SC) where sockeye currently return to spawn; a vegetation control (VC) where nearshore vegetation inhibits the...

This dataset includes spatial locations where surface water presence observations were collected during the late summer baseflow period in Mt. Rainier National Park and surrounding area in Washington State, July 2018 - September 2020. Stream flow status (continuous flow, discontinuous flow, and dry) were recorded using the FLOwPER (FLOw PERmanence) field survey available in the Survey 123 and S1 mobile application for observations collected in 2019 and 2020. Observations collected in 2018 used an earlier version of the FLOwPER survey. Additional information to describe the field conditions are included as part of the survey. The observations were processed to correspond to pixels on the medium resolution National...

We conducted a study to test the factors related to detectability of two invasive aquatic plants (Egeria densa and Myriophyllym spicatum) using environmental DNA (eDNA), over extended periods of time, and specifically examined how plant growth stage and abundance relates to eDNA detection in semi-natural and natural conditions. This dataset is from sampling performed in summer of 2018 in lakes with varying species abundances, and a subset of lakes were re-sampled to test temporal variability in detection.

This release includes data used to fit mass- and temperature-dependent functions for consumption and respiration of redside shiner based on controlled laboratory experiments of maximum consumption (Cmax) rates and routine metabolic rates using intermittent-flow respirometry, across a range of fish sizes (0.6–27.3 g) and temperatures (5–31° C). Long term growth experiments were conducted to evaluate performance of the resulting bioenergetics model. Initial bioenergetic simulations of long-term growth experiments indicated large model error for predicted consumption and growth, and a growth rate error (GRE) correction was developed as a function of daily consumption rate (J·g-1·d-1) and water temperature, and included...

The USGS Powell Center Cascadia earthquake hazards working group compiled published onshore and offshore paleoseismic data along the Cascadia subduction zone, spanning sites from Vancouver Island to the Mendocino triple junction. Evidence for megathrust rupture includes coastal land-level change, tsunami inundation, onshore shaking proxies such as landslides or liquefaction, and offshore shaking proxies such as marine turbidites. The quality of paleoseismic data for megathrust rupture along the Cascadia subduction zone collected over the past three decades varies because analytical capabilities and data collection methodologies have evolved. Thus, as part of the compilation, we also present a ranking scheme to assess...
