These data are a summary of modeled exposure of various lifeline infrastructure linear features and facilities (transportation, water supply and wastewater, oil and gas, electric power, and telecommunications) to potential hazards resulting from the HayWired earthquake scenario, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. Existing hazard data (surface offset, ground shaking (mainshock and aftershocks), landslide, liquefaction, and fire following earthquake) were looked at alone and in combination with each other relative to the lifeline infrastructure linear features and facilities to provide estimates of potential exposure to various...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board compiled and analyzed data for the purpose of mapping groundwater salinity in selected oil and gas fields in California. The data for the Fruitvale and Rosedale Ranch oil fields include well construction data, digitized borehole geophysical data, geochemical analyses of water samples from oil and gas wells and groundwater wells, geological formation depths, and the groundwater total dissolved solids (TDS) calculations used in an accompanying manuscript. These data have been compiled from many sources and span several decades. The well construction data includes attributes such as the date drilling began (spud...

Compilations of potential collocations between various lifeline infrastructure systems components (all lifeline components, transmission-level components only, distribution-level components only, more societally critical components only, and less societally critical components only) and their potential multi-hazard exposure...
Water samples were collected by the USGS National Water Quality Program (NWQP) Southeastern Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA) from 76 perennial, wadeable (less than 10 m width and 1 m depth at base-flow) headwater stream sites in watersheds with varying degrees of urban land use in four states. Dataset includes sample site locations and information, water sample nutrient concentrations and statistics analyses, and corresponding watershed land-use-land-cover data and data dictionary.

Background Discharges from non-point sources, municipal and industrial point sources, and combined sewage overflows over the last century resulted in elevated levels of heavy metals, conventional pollutants, phosphorus, and toxic organic contaminants in water and sediments of the Lower Genesee River and Rochester Embayment. As a result, the zooplankton and phytoplankton or “plankton” communities were designated as one of fourteen Beneficial Use Impairments (BUI); i.e., the resource was either impaired or in need of assessment in the Rochester Embayment Area of Concern (AOC). The Rochester Embayment Remedial Action Committee (RAC) was formed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)...
Filtered water samples were collected by the USGS National Water Quality Program (NWQP) Southeastern Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA) from 59 perennial, wadeable (less than 10 m width and 1 m depth at base-flow) headwater stream sites in watersheds with varying degrees of urban land use in four states. Dataset includes sample site locations and information, analytical method information, water sample pharmaceutical concentrations and summary statistics, and corresponding watershed land-use-land-cover data and data dictionary.

The USGS conducted a combined wastewater facility pre/post-closure groundwater assessment adjacent to an effluent-impacted reach of Fourmile Creek, Ankeny, Iowa, USA. This data release includes pharmaceutical concentration data for Fourmile Creek determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and HPLC-MS/MS during the period October 2012 to October 2014, along with associated HPLC-MS/MS analyte and method performance information.

Problem : Occurrence and persistence of emerging contaminants in groundwater flow in Suffolk County, New York Objectives: This project will monitor groundwater from selected SCWA supply wells for compounds indicative of anthropogenic sources, which are of increasing public concern. Approach: Groundwater-flow information, well-construction details, and distance from treated wastewater (including municipal and industrial) discharge areas will be used to select 12 wells that are along the paths of groundwater flow from discharge sites. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for roughly 100 common organic contaminants—including pharmaceuticals, hormones, and wastewater indicators—that could potentially pass through...

Background The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Village of Patchogue and the New York Department of State, collected water-quality samples from 10 shallow wells within the village to document the effects of onsite wastewater disposal on groundwater discharging into the Patchogue River. The onsite disposal of wastewater within the Patchogue River basin - a riverine estuary that discharges into Great South Bay, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY - has adversely affected water quality and aquatic habitats within both the tidal and non-tidal portions of the river. Of particular concern are increased loads of nutrients (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and phosphorus) to the shallow groundwater system which...

Concentration results and quality assurance for pharmaceutical, hormone, and per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) analyzed in landfill leachate and wastewater influent and effluent. Samples were collected between July and October 2016, using U.S. Geological Survey field methods. Water-quality samples for pharmaceutical and hormone compounds (reported in nanograms per liter; ng/L) were analyzed at the U.S. Geological Survey, National Water Quality Laboratory in Denver, Colorado. Samples for PFAS compounds (reported in ng/L) were analyzed at the Oregon State University Environmental and Molecular Toxicology Field Laboratory, College of Agricultural Sciences.
