This shapefile contains sub-indices comprised of various anthropogenic land use/covers respresentative of the risk of potential habitat degradation to streams within the state of Hawaii. This file is an updated version of 'nfhap_hci_hawaii.shp' and incorporates the suggestion from the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership of removing trails and paths from the road network to help better represent amounts of disturbance in remote areas such as the Na Pali coast. Subindices are summarized for local and network catchments specific to perennial stream reaches throughout the state. The local and network catchments were developed using a modified version of the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) as a baselayer....
These data were used to examine how post-fire sedimentation might change in western USA watersheds with future fire from the decade of 2001-10 through 2041-50. The data include previously published projections (Hawbaker and Zhu, 2012a, b) of areas burned by future wildfires for several climate change scenarios and general circulation models (GCMs) that we summarized for 471 watersheds of the western USA. The data also include previously published predictions (Miller et al., 2011) of first year post-fire hillslope soil erosion from GeoWEPP that we summarized for 471 watersheds of the western USA. We synthesized these summarized data in order to project sediment yield from future fires for 471 watersheds through the...

This service definition contains landscape factors representing potential human disturbances to river systems summarized in 12-digit USGS hydrological units (HUC12s) for the state of Alaska. Variables include land uses, barriers to fish movement, landing strips/airports, mines, point-source pollutant sites, and infrastructure like pipelines, railroads, and roads. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to HUC12s were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire state of Alaska in the way that they were assembled; (3) representative of conditions from 2000 to 2010; and (4) of sufficient spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons...

This dataset uses (1) fundamental drainage areas (FDA, NRCAN 2003) and (2) Hydrologic Units 8-digits (HUC8, USGS 2014). The boundaries of the FDAs and HUC8s have been modified to follow the boundaries of the catchments in the NWB LCC Catchments Version 1.0 dataset (BEACONs 2015). REFERENCES BEACONs. 2015. This dataset is one of a dozen or so datasets that provide the basis for a vulnerability assessment of the Great Northern LCC that examines land use and climate changes at landscape scales, for the full LCC boundary. It provides a measure of vulnerability based on climate velocity using a watershed-based analysis. The values range from 0 to 1 and are unitless, where Vvw = Ev x (1-Aw). The original floating point values ranging from 0-1.0 were multiplied by 100 and converted to integer format for this dataset.

This Phase II project will complete the funding needs for the modeling and product components to revise existing priority protection and restoration watersheds for 5-7 aquatic species guilds and 4-8 priority aquatic species across the Grassland Ecosystem. The project will utilize and update the original model platform used to create the first priorities for the Great Plains Fish Habitat Partnership (GPFHP) in 2011 and utilize input from the Partners Council fishery experts of the GPFHP, which is composed of twenty state and federal agencies and nonprofits focused on aquatic conservation in the Great Plains as well as meet Grasslands Initiative goals. Benefits of the proposed outcome will be a broad consensus on...

The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000/1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. (Data for Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands was developed at high-resolution, not 1:100,000 scale.) Local resolution NHD is being developed where partners and data exist. The NHD contains reach codes for networked features, flow direction, names, and centerline representations for areal water...

Wadeable stream habitat data from four long-term monitoring programs (AIM, AREMP, NRSA, PIBO MP) were obtained, pre-processed, transformed, and combined using R code following the Stream Habitat Metrics Integration (SHMI) Data Exchange Standard. The dataset includes 26 stream habitat metrics collected between 2000 and 2022 across the United States at ~12,000 locations from ~19,000 data collection events for a total of ~200,000 measurements. Measurements include reach characteristics (sampled reach length, channel gradient, sinuosity), channel dimensions (bankfull width and height, average bankfull width to depth ratio, mean thalweg depth, average wetted width), channel substrate particle sizes (percent fines, percent...

The overall goal of this project has been the development of forest health and sensitivity indicators and “1st-generation” maps of potential sensitivity to disturbance for lands within watersheds of the NYC water supply in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The methodologies and data layers created in this effort can now be used to aid management decisions and help determine the extent and magnitude of terrestrial and aquatic responses to acidic deposition. The data products derived from this effort have been produced and documented in such a manner that stakeholders can now use these products for site evaluation as well as to perform more extensive analysis on the suite of readily available GIS and image-based...
The National Network of Reference Watersheds is a collaborative and multipurpose network of minimally disturbed watersheds and monitoring sites. The purpose of this website is to allow users to search the NNRW database of reference watersheds, to identify watersheds of interest, and download watershed information and water quality data. The current scope of the network is limited to freshwater streams. Membership in the network is voluntary and open to individuals, agencies, and institutions interested in participating in monitoring and (or) research in minimally disturbed and pristine watersheds. The NNRW defines reference watersheds as those minimally disturbed by human activity preferably in an area protected...
