We evaluated the expected success of habitat recovery in priority areas under 3 different restoration scenarios: passive, planting, and seeding. Passive means no human intervention following a fire disturbance. Under a planting scenario, field technicians methodically plant young sagebrush saplings at the burned site. The seeding scenario involves distributing large amounts of sagebrush seeds throughout the affected area.

Map of cumulative 38-day nest survival predicted from a Bayesian hierarchical shared frailty model of sage-grouse nest fates. The midpoint of coefficient conditional posterior distributions of 38-day nest survival were used for prediction at each 30 meter pixel across the landscape.

Ranked index of model-projected nest site selection integrated with nesting productivity (i.e., nest survival), demonstrating the spatial distribution of adaptive vs. maladaptive habitat selection at each 30 m pixel. Hierarchical models of nest selection and survival were fit to landscape covariates within a Bayesian modeling framework in Nevada and California from 2009 through 2017 to develop spatially explicit information about nest site selection and survival consequences across the landscape. Habitat was separated into 16 classes ranking from high (1) to low (16). Habitat ranked highest where the top nest selection and survival classes intersected (adaptive selection), whereas the lowest rank occurred where...

This data set depicts a preliminary version of the management zone boundaries for Greater and Gunnison sage-grouse in the western United States and Canada. These boundaries were digitized from a hand drawn figure originally created by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies' (WAFWA) Sage-grouse Conservation Planning Framework Team for use in the Greater Sage-grouse Comprehensive Conservation Strategy. The delineation of sage-grouse management zones provide a context for the Sage-grouse Conservation Planning Framework Team to keep track of changes in sage-grouse populations and habitat trends and to identify where appropriate conservation strategies might be implemented.</purpose> This represents...

Map of nesting habitat selection scores predicted from a resource selection function (RSF) developed from sage-grouse nest locations. Nest site selection was modeled using a generalized linear mixed model of used and random locations in a Bayesian modeling environment, and the midpoint of coefficient conditional posterior distributions were used for prediction. Continuous values were reclassified and ranked using a percent isopleth approach with respect to observed nest locations.

Sage-grouse continue to use habitat following wildfire, so prioritizing high selection, low survival areas can help ameliorate potential post-wildfire ecological traps. This shapefile represents areas within the burn scars at the Virginia Mountains field site which are high selection and high or low survival which have been deemed to be 'priority' targets for post-fire restoration efforts. The 'burn scar' used in this project is an amalgamation of multiple fires which occurred within the field site during the summers of 2016 and 2017.

This coverage provides an estimate of the highest annual average wind resource potential in the Greater Sage-grouse Conservation Assessment (CA) area. Wind power was measured at 50 meters above ground level. The vector data used to create this file was originally derived from a raster dataset (200m resolution) by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The original data provides seven "Wind Power Classes" to distinguish wind power density (W/m2). Only the highest wind power classes that fell within the CA boundary are represented in this dataset.

A complete set of wells associated with oil, natural gas, and coal bed natural gas development in the western states as of August 31, 2005. This is a static dataset even though liquid energy development is a highly dynamic endeavor. Because these well location datasets are generally housed and managed by various state-based agencies (typically the state Oil and Gas Conservation Commissions) a uniform, spatially precise coverage for the has not been available to date. This layer consolidates the best available well location data from MT, WY, CO, and UT(ID does not report any liquid energy development) and standardizes the attributites. The user is cautioned that this layer only contains known and reported wells and...

These data are a habitat restoration index based on the intersection of loss of habitat selected by sage-grouse and loss of habitat contributions to nest survival following wildfire.

Management and disturbances have significant effects on grassland forage production. When using satellite remote sensing to monitor climate impacts such as drought stress on annual forage production, minimizing these effects provides a clearer climate signal in the productivity data. The use of an ecosystem performance approach for assessment of seasonal and interannual climate impacts on forage production in semi-arid grasslands proved to be a successful method in a case study covering the Nebraska Sandhills. In this study we developed a time series (2000-2018) of the Expected Ecosystem Performance (EEP), which serves as a proxy for annual forage production after accounting for non-climatic influences, while minimizing...
