The U.S. Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) has created high-resolution land cover/use data sets for the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS) from 1:15,000-scale color infrared aerial photos. These data have been used to create a variety of products, one of which is a data set used to classify aquatic areas. The 1989 and 1991 aquatic areas data sets were created by first generalizing the available land cover/use data into a land/water data set, then reinterpreting the aerial photography within the areas classified as water to determine the type of aquatic area. The geographic extent of the UMRS is the Mississippi River floodplain from Cairo, IL to Minneapolis, MN and the Illinois...

This metadata record describes the materials contained in stake folder 696. Stake 696 is located at latitude 36.39889, longitude -112.63056. This location was photographed in the following years: 1872, 1968 and 1972. The materials associated with this item include original best quality images from each repeat date (preserved as digitized film images or in some cases digitized print photographs, depending on availability), scanned film envelopes with camera metadata, records of repeat photography sheets, and all field notes and/or camera notes associated with this stake. All attachments follow the following naming convention: stake_date_material_type_Kanab. Some stakes will have multiple materials from one repeat...

The Louisiana State Legislature created Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed persuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Channel Armor Gap Crevasse (MR-06) project for 2016. This data set is used as a basemap land/water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project...

This assessment presents GIS data containing results of all freshwater assessment analyses conducted by The Nature Conservancy for Washington State. This data set includes values for biodiversity metrics (e.g. suitability, threat, number of species) across all HUC6 watersheds in Washington State, as well as identifies rivers, watersheds, and wetlands that provide the best opportunities for conservation of Washington's native freshwater species and ecological systems. This EnviroAtlas web service supports research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas). The Food, Fuel, and Materials category in this web service includes layers illustrating the ecosystems and natural resources that provide or support the production of food, fuel, or other materials, the need or demand for these items, the impacts associated with their presence and accessibility, and factors that place stress on the natural environment's capability to provide these benefits. EnviroAtlas allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the conterminous United States. Additional descriptive...

The security of the northern leopard frog (Rana pipiens) varies spatially with populations east and west of North Dakota considered as secure and at risk, respectively. We used genetic markers to characterize the conservation status of northern leopard frog populations across North Dakota. We used multiple regression analyses and model selection to evaluate correlations of expected heterozygosity (HE) with the direct and additive effects of: i) geographic location,ii) wetland density and iii) average annual precipitation. There was lower genetic diversity in the western portion of the state due to lower levels of diversity for populations southwest of the Missouri River. This may reflect a refugial/colonization...

This map layer includes Global Map data showing waterbodies and wetlands of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The data are a modified version of the National Atlas of the United States 1:1,000,000-Scale Waterbodies and Wetlands of the United States; that data set was created primarily from the Medium-Resolution and High-Resolution National Hydrography Dataset NHDWaterbody feature classes, through feature selection and cartographic generalization based on reference to published small-scale ancillary data sets.

We examined carcass composition and proximate food composition of ruddy ducks (Oxyura jamaicensis), northern shovelers (Anas clypeata), and northern pintails (Anas acuta) wintering on agricultural drainwater ponds in California during 1983-84. Lipids varied seasonally in northern shovelers and northern pintails. Protein did not fluctuate except in ruddy ducks whose protein mass increased over winter, suggesting that some protein was catabolized prior to arrival on wintering areas or that a buildup of protein occurred prior to spring migration. Waterfowl diets varied among species and time, but the nutritional composition of the diets was relatively stable. Ruddy ducks and shovelers consumed mostly animal foods rich...

This dataset consists of raster images produced by the University of New Orleans for and funded by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Restoration and Managegment (LDNR/OCRM Contract No. 2512-06-06). The original raster dataset was clipped to the updated boundary of the BA-38 CWPPRA project (Pelican Island and Pass La Mer to Chaland Pass) for Chaland Island. These raster datasets are a component of the deliverables necessary to fullfill requirements for the University of New Orleans under the scope of services specified in the Statewide Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) Program. The raster data provides LDNR/OCRM with short term and near term habitat configurations for five...
