Index card: Shortly after the earthquake, large masses of sod were thrown up on the Lake shore; these presumably reflected parts of the floor of Hebgen Lake, which had been broken and disrupted at the time of the earthquake and then moved by the waves of the seiche to their present position. Index card: The Hebgen fault scarp where it cuts Beaver Creek. View is eastward. A small falls formed during the earthquake was reduced to a rapids in about one year; now the steep embankments are the only sign that the fault scarp ever cut this stream. The source area of the slide are steeply dipping schist beds shown along the crest. Part of the slide, covered by trees and soil, shows in the lower lefthand corner of the photograph. Along the right center of the photograph are remnants of the dolomite buttress. Madison County, Montana. August 1959.

Index card: Red Canyon fault scarp as exposed along the south flank of Kirkwood Ridge near the head of Kirkwood Creek. The fault scarp here is wholly in colluvial debris. Part of the slickensides have been chopped away to show the general texture of the material. Slickensides dip downslope, reflecting direction of the movement of colluvium.
