This R code (eggs.R) inputs the quality controlled nest card data and (1) performs additional quality control on the egg code data, (2) reformat the eggs data into a tidy file of egg observations, (3) summarizes egg data into yearly means of initiation and hatch date based on incubation model, and (4) writes csv files for tidy egg data (eggs.csv) and yearly nest stats (yearstats.csv).

The purpose of the Coral Reef Evaluation and Monitoring Project (CREMP) is to monitor the status and trends of selected reefs in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary(FKNMS). CREMP assessments have been conducted annually at fixed sites since 1996 and data collected provides information on the temporal changes in benthic cover and diversity of stony corals and associated marine flora and fauna. The core field methods continue to be underwater videography and timed coral species inventories. The WBPHS_AK bird observation data are archived as two separate datasets: 1) the raw data as originally transcribed by survey observers; and 2) the data as edited via a quality-control (QC) process. Among other things, the QC process removed records of certain non-waterfowl species, and it changed some species codes to meet the MBM-Alaska Waterfowl Program’s standardized format for transect waterfowl surveys. The QC dataset is that which MBM-Alaska uses for analyses and is considered the most appropriate for sharing with other users.This collection of files comprises the raw transcribed WBPHS_AK bird-observation data. Capture mule deer, elk, and pronghorn in priority herds to attach GPS radio collars, and analyze those data to understand migration patterns, stopover areas, and seasonal habitats, 2) deploy trail cameras on existing herds to quantify use of wildlife crossing structures, 3) purchase remote sensing imagery and analysis of mule deer and pronghorn GPS collars to identify conflict areas with feral equids, and 4) conduct habitat evaluation of stopover sites where prior habitat improvement treatments have been conducted.

Building upon the successful efforts of SARP, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), and other federal, state, and local partners to establish and implement NFCAs in the Llano River watershed, TX and Chipola River watershed, FL (Birdsong et al., 2015, Garrett et al. 2015), we will coordinate a series of watershed-based conservation planning workshops focused on eight priority river systems in the Great Plains (i.e., the White River, Platte River, Arkansas-Kansas Rivers, Canadian River, Deep Fork River, Red River, Brazos River, and Colorado River). The application of ecological modeling can demonstrate robust, objective, and transparent biological analysis. The Austin Ecological Service Field Office has a multitude of challenging Species Status Assessments (SSA) to complete to support upcoming ESA classification decisions. The whooping crane is one of the most iconic and endangered migratory birds in the world and the wild population’s wintering grounds and migration corridor overlaps a significant portion of the USFWS southwest region. Rapidly developing wind energy in the Gulf Coast (wintering habitat), East Texas, Oklahoma and Great Plains (migratory habitat) has the potential to impact whooping crane habitat use and shift seasonal mortality. The narrow-headed gartersnake (Thamnophis rufipunctatus, hereafter THRU) is a federally threatened species endemic to the Mogollon Rim of central Arizona and western New Mexico. This species has undergone marked declines throughout its range due primarily to introduced fish and crayfish and loss or degradation of riparian and within-stream habitat. There is currently no THRU species recovery plan and in 2020 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service formally began the most recent Species Status Assessment (SSA) for THRU, which is anticipated to form the basis for the species recovery plan. Managers typically estimate wildlife abundance using surveys within a timeframe that favors increased detectability; however, the ability to account for probabilities of inclusion, detection, and/or presence within a given sampling area is often limited. Caves in the Ozarks of eastern Oklahoma are known to be inhabited by the rare Oklahoma cave crayfish (Cambarus tartarus), the Delaware cave crayfish (C. subterraneus), and the federally listed threatened Ozark cavefish (Amblyopsis rosae). These species utilize ground/subsurface water present in the caves. Because these caves occur in fractured limestone rock landscapes (karst), there is a strong surface water connection with any ground/subsurface water present in the caves. Consequently, actions on the land surface have the potential to influence groundwater quality in these caves. In Texas, there are currently 15 species listed as state threatened, of which 5 are candidates for protection under the Endangered Species Act (TPWD 2010; USFWS 2009, 2011). For many of these species it is unknown how habitat quality and quantity is influenced by changes in flow, whether it be extreme low or high flows. Thus, the emphasis of this study will be to begin summarizing the effects of disruptive flow events on mussels to help inform ongoing conservation assessments by USFWS. The anticipated outcome of this project is a review of mussel-hydrologic relationships that USFWS can use to aide in their conservation and recovery activities for Texas mussel species.

Grassland ecosystems established under the conservation reserve program (CRP) in the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) currently provide soil conservation and wildlife habitat services. We aimed to determine if these lands also sequester soil organic carbon (SOC), as compared with neighboring croplands across multiple farms in the North Dakota PPR. We sampled soil from small plots at 17 private farms in the central North Dakota PPR, where long-term (C15 years) grasslands managed under the CRP were paired with neighboring annual croplands. Estimates of nutrient loading to the Gulf of Mexico indicate that nine states within the Mississippi River Basin are responsible for approximately 75% of all nitrogen and phosphorus delivered to the Gulf. The Mississippi Basin supports a rich assemblage of fish species; at least 25% of all species in the conterminous United States are found in the Basin. These assemblages reflect their habitats, human landscape disturbances, and fragmentation of the river network by dams. Climate also has close associations with aquatic habitat conditions and ultimately fish community composition.
