These data were compiled to provide a resource for other researchers interested in water-surface elevations and flow velocity across a wide range of discharge in the study reach for the project. Objective(s) of our study were to construct a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model for the 15.8 mile tailwater reach of the Colorado River in Glen Canyon between Glen Canyon Dam and Lees Ferry, Arizona. These data represent the results of the two-dimensional modeling effort with each data table (50) including the results of each run of the model. Additionally, other data represent a comparison of modeled water surface elevations to measured water surface elevations for historic Bureau of Reclamation cross sections in the study...

During summer 2019, botanists with the Maine Natural Areas Program collected data from 94 vegetation plots for plant community characterization. The sampling data were entered into the National Park Service PLOTS version 4.0 (National Park Service 2018) for analyses to characterize vegetation associations in the U.S. National Vegetation Classification. An accuracy assessment was performed on the draft version of the vegetation map layer. During the summer of 2020, field crews collected data from 107 stratified and randomly selected sites for evaluating the accuracy of the vegetation map layer for those map classes representing U.S. National Vegetation Classification associations. The accuracy assessment field data...

The National Land Cover Database (NLCD) is a land cover monitoring program providing land cover information for the United States. NLCD2016 extended temporal coverage to 15 years (2001–2016). We collected land cover reference data for the 2011 and 2016 nominal dates to report land cover accuracy for the NLCD2016 database 2011 and 2016 land cover components. We measured land cover accuracy at Level II and Level I, and change accuracy at Level I. For both the 2011 and 2016 land cover components, single-date Level II overall accuracies (OA) were 72% (standard error of ±0.9%) when agreement was defined as match between the map label and primary reference label only and 86% (± 0.7%) when agreement also included the alternate...
Despite widespread and long-standing efforts to model wildlife-habitat associations using remotely sensed and other spatially explicit data, there are relatively few evaluations of the performance of variables included in predictive models relative to actual features on the landscape. As part of the National Gap Analysis Program, we specifically examined physical site features at randomly selected sample locations in the Southwestern U.S. to assess degree of concordance with predicted features used in modeling vertebrate habitat distribution. Our analysis considered hypotheses about relative accuracy with respect to 30 vertebrate species selected to represent the spectrum of habitat generalist to specialist and...

We evaluated the effects of probabilistic (hereafter DESIGN) and non-probabilistic (PURPOSIVE) sample surveys on resultant classification tree models for predicting the presence of four lichen species in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Models derived from both survey forms were assessed using an independent data set (EVALUATION). Measures of accuracy as gauged by resubstitution rates were similar for each lichen species irrespective of the underlying sample survey form. Cross-validation estimates of prediction accuracies were lower than resubstitution accuracies for all species and both design types, and in all cases were closer to the true prediction accuracies based on the EVALUATION data set. We argue that greater...

The National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Inventory Program (VIP) is an effort to classify, describe, and map existing vegetation of national park units as part of generating baseline data products for the NPS Natural Resources Inventory and Monitoring Program. Plot data were collected during field visits to SAJH during the summer of 2010 and spring of 2011. Vegetation polygons were initially developed using aerial photography within ArcGIS. These polygons were modified based on field work conducted during the summer of 2010 and spring of 2011. The small extent of the park allowed classification data collection to occur simultaneously with field-based mapping. Prior to conducting field visits, existing vegetation...

The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument Seboeis Unit Vegetation Mapping Project was initiated in the fall of 2019 by a grant through the USGS Natural Resource Preservation Program to classify and map vegetation types of the Seboeis Unit thereby providing resource managers and biological researchers with useful baseline vegetation information. These data are the results of the field effort to collect accuracy assessment data for testing the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument Seboeis Unit Vegetation Mapping Project vegetation map. Data collection was assisted by Jennifer Tibbetts, David Rubin, and Tiffany Reese. An accuracy assessment was performed on the draft version of the vegetation map layer....

Alliance-based vegetation map for Lewis and Clark National Historical Park produced by the Institute for Natural Resources at Portland State University. Part of the Vegetation Mapping Program of the Inventory and Monitoring program at NPS. Several imagery sources were used to construct the vegetation map. LiDAR, SPOT 4, NAIP, and LANDSAT were available for the majority of the project area, with only a few places in Washington lacking LiDAR data. The eCognition software package and Berkley Imaging Segmentation was used to create the initial image segments and polygon map used to aid in collection of field training data. The mean values of various variable inputs were summarized by each of the image segments in addition...

This layer provides the vegetation map for the Seboeis Unit. Information for this layer was collected in 2019 and 2020. After completion of the accuracy assessment process, 33 map classes represent the Seboeis Unit of the monument. Of the 33 map classes that represent the Seboeis Unit, 28 represent natural (including ruderal) vegetation types, consisting of 50 U.S....

The National Land Cover Database (NLCD), a product suite produced through the Multi-resolution Land Characteristics (MRLC) consortium, is an operational land cover monitoring program. The release of NLCD2019 extends the database to 18 years. We collected land cover reference data for the 2016 and 2019 components of the NLCD2019 database at Level II and Level I of the classification hierarchy. For both dates, Level II land cover overall accuracies (OA) were 77.5% ± 1% (± value is the standard error) when agreement was defined as a match between the map label and primary reference label only and increased to 87.1% ± 0.7% when agreement was defined as a match between the map label and either the primary or alternate...
