Desert spring wetlands host many endemic species that require aquatic habitat and are isolated by the surrounding xeric terrestrial habitat. The Dixie Valley Toad (Anaxyrus williamsi) is a recently described anuran species endemic to desert spring wetlands in the Dixie Valley, Churchill County, Nevada, USA. Given this species was only recently recognized as distinct from Anaxyrus boreas, little is known about its ecology and habitat requirements. These data represent the results of surveys for Dixie Valley Toads conducted from April 2018 to May 2021 in Churchill County, Nevada, USA and associated covariates from surveys and study sites. The potential wetland habitat for the Dixie Valley Toad was divided into 20...

This dataset includes results from external skin swabbing of Rana boylii and Dicamptodon tenebrosus to test for the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis from Fox Creek in Mendocino County, California, in 2016-2020. Morphological measurements of swabbed animals were recorded, and Rana boylii had a unique identifier (pit tag) inserted beneath their skin for identification in future capture events. These data supports the following publication: Belasen, A.M., Peek, R.A., Adams, A.J., Russell, I.D., De León, M.E., Adams, M.J., Bettaso, J., Breedveld, K.G.H., Catenazzi, A., Dillingham, C.P. and Grear, D.A., 2024. These data are the results of surveys for the Shasta salamander complex (Hydromantes shastae, H. samweli, and H. wintu) conducted at 87 survey plots on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest from April 2019 to March 2020. Time- and area-constrained occupancy surveys were conducted at plots selected within high-priority areas identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There are additional surveys planned for future field seasons. As the Shasta Salamander is under review for listing under the Endangered Species Act, sensitive location information is restricted, and can be made available upon request by contacting the dataset point of contact.

These data include egg mass counts and adult capture-mark-recapture histories for Foothill Yellow-legged frogs (Rana boylii) at two streams in northern California. Data were collected from the South Fork Eel River and its tributary, Fox Creek, from 1993-2019. Data from Hurdygurdy Creek were collected from 2002-2008. This code and data support the following publication: Rose, JP, Kupferberg, SJ, Wheeler, CA, Kleeman, PM, and Halstead BJ. 2021. Estimating the survival of unobservable life stages for a declining frog with a complex life history. Ecosphere. 12(2):e03381.
Species distributions are governed by processes occurring at multiple spatial scales. For species with complex life cycles, the needs of all life stages must be met within the dispersal limitations of the species. Multi-scale processes can be particularly important for these species, where small-scale patterns in specific habitat components can affect the distribution of one life stage, whereas large-scale patterns in land cover might better explain the distribution of other life stages. Using a conditional multi-scale model, we evaluated which aspects of the landscape and local environment are most strongly related to occupancy patterns of western spadefoots (Spea hammondii). These data describe the survey, pool,...

These data provide temperatures and relative conductivity to determine the presence or absence of water at specific locations in Dixie Meadows, Dixie Valley, Churchill County, Nevada, 2019-2021.
These data represent occupancy surveys conducted in long-term monitoring sites in Yosemite National Park in 2018 for three anurans, the Yosemite Toad (Anaxyrus canorus), the Sierran Treefrog (Pseudacris sierra), and the Sierra Nevada Yellow-legged Frog (Rana sierrae). The data include independent double-observer surveys and time-to-detection data to calculate detection probabilities and account for false negatives, or the failure to detect a species at a site where it occurs. These data support the following publication: Schimel, D.S., 2018, Editorial: Ecological Applications, v. 28, no. 4, p. 869–870, https://doi.org/10.1002/eap.1735.
These data include site- and survey-specific information for occupancy surveys of Dixie Valley Toads (Anaxyrus williamsi) collected in the Dixie Valley, Churchill County, Nevada, in May 2019. The data include both multiple surveys of the same sites and time-to-detection information to quantify detection probabilities and account for imperfect detection in assessments of Dixie Valley Toad occupancy. These data support the following publication: Schimel, D.S., 2018, Editorial: Ecological Applications, v. 28, no. 4, p. 869–870, https://doi.org/10.1002/eap.1735.

The Shasta salamander (Hydromantes shastae) has been petitioned for listing under the Endangered Species Act. The greatest threat to the species is likely habitat loss that will be caused by the increase in elevation of Shasta Lake that will occur with proposed increases in the height of Shasta Dam to increase water storage capacity and maintain cold water for Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). Another potential threat is the fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, which has not yet been detected in North America but is lethal to related salamanders (Hydromantes strinatii) in Europe (Martel et al. 2014). In addition to these threats, recent genetic evidence suggests that the species as originally petitioned...

These data include field-collected observations of the occurrence of adult and larval amphibians at 174 sites in 14 watersheds at Yosemite National Park from 2007 through 2021. Also included in the data are potential variables affecting site occurrence, probability of reproduction, and probability of detection of amphibians, including static site-specific variables like site size and elevation, and dynamic variables including surveyors, when surveys occurred, and site- and year-specific weather variables. These data were used to fit the models in the accompanying publication and can be used with the associated code to replicate the results found in the publication. These data support the following publication:...
