Fish distribution in Umpqua National Forest. The cover was built at two locations and by two people. Cottage Grove prepared the Cottage Grove district fish distribution and the Supervisors office prepared the fish distribution for Tiller, North Umpqua, and Diamond Lake districts. The SO then merged the two layers together. The fish distribution layer was developed using the existing stream layer, then identifying those streams and stream breaks for each fish species. The streams that don't have any fish distribution were deleted fom the layer. Arcview was the program used to create the layer utilizing heads-up digitizing to identify the breaks. This cover was built at a map scale of 1:24000.

As the SEAK Hydro database evolves, so to will the metadata for this dataset. Until noted otherwise, please reference this dataset's metadata for an older version of the source data.This map service contains two barrier layers, one from the USFS and one from the AWC. The USFS barriers layer contains points representing bedrock waterfalls in Southeast Alaska that are potential barriers to fish passage on the Tongass National Forest. Waterfalls less than 1 meter are not mapped nor are those caused only by wood or debris jams. Channel types considered to be de facto barriers to fish passage HC5, HC6, & MC3 (Channel Type Users Guide, USFS 1992) were not included in the layer. The AWC layer is undocumented at this time.
This online database (https://www.streamcontinuity.org/cdb2/naacc_search_crossing.cfm) serves as a common repository for road-stream crossing assessment data assembled by the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC). Both a network of partners and a source of shared resources, the NAACC offers a collaborative framework for taking on the critical task of assessing and upgrading the hundreds of thousands of outdated road-stream crossings across the region that represent barriers to wildlife movement and pose flooding risks to communities. This dataset represents points from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game "Catalog of Waters Important for Spawning, Rearing, or Migration of Anadromous Fishes." This dataset represents the combination of several regional datasets produced by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The Conservation Biology Institute used information in these datasets to derive additional attributes describing the life stages recorded for each species, and summary metrics across all species. The individual shapefiles from which this dataset was compiled were produced for general visual reference and to aid users in generating various natural resource analyses and products. This dataset represents streams from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game "Catalog of Waters Important for Spawning, Rearing, or Migration of Anadromous Fishes." Dams are ubiquitous in coastal regions and have altered stream habitats and the distribution and abundance of stream fishes in those habitats by disrupting hydrology, temperature regime and habitat connectivity. Dam removal is a common restoration tool, but often the response of the fish assemblage is not monitored rigorously. Sedgeunkedunk Stream, a small tributary to the Penobscot River (Maine, USA), has been the focus of a restoration effort that includes the removal of two low-head dams. This dataset has the same coverage as the Anadromous Waters Catalog, except that it has additional attribute fields identifying species and life stages for individual stream segments. There are 23 species in the dataset and three life stages: present (p), spawning (s), and rearing (r). It was received from Skip Repetto, a GIS Analyst at ADF&G with the following caveat: "This is a value added representation of the AWC and has not been error checked completely, so use at your own risk; the actual AWC takes precedent." This tool allows users to view aquatic barriers (dams, road-stream crossings) by the relative gain in ecological value if they were removed. Users start with a consensus map of anadromous fish priorities, which was developed based on stakeholder input as part of the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC). Beyond the consensus results, interested users can create their own scenarios by filtering input barriers to limit the analysis to a given state or watershed, changing the weights of metrics according to their importance to the analysis objectives (e.g. length of upstream network connected, number of diadromous fish present, etc.) and by modeling the removal of up to 10 barriers.The link address...

This dataset shows river systems in the study area that are near mercury contaminated sites, were or are under a fish consumption advisory from the State of Alaska. Locational data was derived from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Contaminated Sites Database and cross referenced to the DEC Contaminated Sites with Mercury report (http://dec.alaska.gov/eh/mercury/contaminatedSites.html) in order to identify sites that were active and contaminated with mercury, and the Anadromous Streams Catalog was used to display the rivers.

Species occurrence data were obtained from the Atlas of Spawning and Nursery Areas of Great Lakes Fishes (Goodyear et al. 1982). The atlas contains information on all of the commercially and recreationally important species that use the tributaries, littoral and open-water areas of the Great Lakes as spawning and nursery habitats. Close to 9500 geo-referenced data records (occurrences of fish species) were imported into ArcView GIS. The 139 fish taxa reported in the Atlas had to be grouped into fewer broad categories to produce meaningful distribution maps. We chose three functional classification schemes.
