Several previously published reports and geographic information system (GIS) data layers were used to code information on site attributes for each assessment plot using the spatial join tool in ArcMap. This information was used for an analysis of dieback and non-dieback habitat characteristics. The results of this analysis are presented in this table which depicts the probability of heavy to severe canopy dieback occurring at some time at a particular 30 x 30 m pixel location within the study area.
Broadly, recovery of threatened and endangered species requires specific management actions by natural resource managers at a fine scale. We used a systematic conservation planning framework to outline conservation goals across multiple land-uses, including native habitat protection and identifying endangered species-specific recovery areas while minimizing intrusion on existing hunting areas on the island of Lanai. We used spatial prioritization tools to generate multiple scenarios where both conservation and hunting areas (deemed zones for analysis purposes) were delineated to meet land-use goals. These delineated areas will help land managers to minimize conflicts between uses for populations of non-native game...
Agent-based models (ABMs) and state-and-transition simulation models (STSMs) have proven useful for understanding processes underlying social-ecological systems and evaluating practical questions about how systems might respond to different scenarios. ABMs can simulate a variety of agents (i.e., autonomous units, such as wildlife, people, or viruses); agent characteristics, decision-making, adaptive behavior, and mobility; and interactions between agents and their environment. STSMs are flexible and intuitive stochastic models of landscape dynamics that can track scenarios and landscape attributes, and integrate diverse data types. Both can be run spatially and track metrics of management success. Due to the complementarity...

This data release includes data and metadata on all native plant species, native habitat, and hunting areas included in the spatial prioritization analyses.
