This dataset is the result of measurements of groundwater levels in the Equus Beds aquifer near Wichita, Kansas, in January 2016. Potentiometric surfaces are interpolated for the shallow and deep parts of the aquifer, and rasters of the potentiometric surfaces are included in this data release. Wells were classified as being screened in the shallow or deep parts of the aquifer based on station name (some wells have a layer identifier in the station name) or, if no indication of aquifer layer was given in the station name, based on the depth of the well; wells with depths less than 80 feet below land surface were classified as shallow and wells with depths of 80 feet or deeper were classified as deep. Contours with...

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2003 along a north-south profile west of Wendover, Nevada. It is important to know whether major mining districts in the Northern Nevada Gold Province are underlain by rocks of the Archean Wyoming craton, which are known to contain orogenic gold deposits, or by accreted rocks of the Paleoproterozoic Mojave province. It is also important to know the location and orientation of the Archean/Proterozoic suture zone between these provinces as well as major basement structures within these terranes because they may influence subsequent patterns of sedimentation, deformation, magmatism, and hydrothermal activity. This study was funded by the U.S....
Please note: a more recent version of this dataset is available. Users are strongly advised to access the newer version of the dataset at https://doi.org/10.5066/P9YGUE2V. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the HarrisāGalveston Subsidence District, City of Houston, Fort Bend Subsidence District, and Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District, produced a dataset through 2017 of compaction values in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the HoustonāGalveston region, Texas. This dataset contains compaction values of subsurface sediments (mostly in the fine-grained silt and clay layers because little compaction occurs in sand layers) in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers that were recorded continuously...

This data release contains compiled historical groundwater-withdrawal data for the Coastal Lowlands Aquifer System in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida from 1925 to 2018. Most groundwater-withdrawals were distributed to groundwater wells and separated into water-use categories of industrial, production wells, power generation, mining, domestic, irrigation, livestock or commercial. Groundwater-withdrawal data were obtained, where available, from existing database resources hosted by various State and Federal agencies. For Texas, data were obtained from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) from both existing Groundwater Availability Models (GAM), and from historical groundwater-withdrawal data....

This dataset documents the depth to groundwater measured in wells screened in the Chicot, Evangeline, and Jasper aquifers in the HoustonāGalveston region, Texas for 2020. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the HarrisāGalveston Subsidence District, City of Houston, Fort Bend Subsidence District, Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District, and Brazoria County Groundwater Conservation District. This dataset was created to provide resource managers, public officials, researchers, and the general public with ready access to information regarding depths to groundwater in the region. All of the data in this dataset were collected from December 2019 through March 2020 and are stored in...
How quickly a lake fills after water is drawn for irrigation or drinking is easily measured, but that’s not true for underground water reserves, called aquifers. Because it takes place belowground, groundwater replenishment—or recharge—can’t be directly observed. Scientists must estimate it, often by using complex mathematical models. A new screening tool may now ease the task.
In 2011, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Town of Newfield and the Tompkins County Planning Department, began a study of the stratified-drift aquifers in the West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill valleys in the Town of Newfield, Tompkins County, New York. The objective of this study was to characterize the hydrogeology and water quality of the stratified-drift aquifers in the West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill valleys and produce a summary report of the findings. This dataset contains locations of surface water discharge and water quality sites in West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill Valleys, Newfield, Tompkins County, New York.

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2007 in and near the San Luis Valley, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including MT surveys, in the San Luis Valley to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater aquifers of the Rio Grande rift. The shallow unconfined and the deeper confined Santa Fe Group aquifers in the San Luis Basin are the main sources of municipal water for the region. The population of the San Luis Valley region is growing rapidly and water shortfalls could have serious consequences. Future growth and land management...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Arkansas Geological Survey (AGS), has gathered available geophysical logs and related data from the USGS office archives in Arkansas and Tennessee as a basis for developing a hydrogeologic framework for the Southeast region of the United States. Similar efforts were undertaken by the Mississippi Embayment Regional Aquifer Study (MERAS) and the Regional Aquifer-System Analysis (RASA) Program. The logs compiled for these older efforts were difficult to access from the paper files; however, and partly because of this, older and newer logs were compiled into a single digital database for the current study.

This dataset contains surface-water-altitude (SWA) data from streamgages that was used or considered to create a potentiometric-surface map for the Mississippi River Valley alluvial (MRVA) aquifer for spring 2018. The surface-water-altitude data was referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). The streamgages are measured continuously. The streamgage measurement that was used was from early April 2018 and is an estimate of the groundwater altitudes at the gage location. The resultant potentiometric-surface contours and raster represents the generalized central tendency for spring 2018, but it would not be useful for some purposes, such as for calibration of a groundwater-flow model for early...
This dataset contains the contours, in feet, of the potentiometric-surface, spring 2020, Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA). The contours are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). The contours were derived from most of the available groundwater-altitude (GWA) data from wells and surface-water-altitude (SWA) data from streamgages, measured in for spring 2020. The potentiometric contours ranged from 10 to 340 feet (3 to 104 meters) above NAVD 88. The regional direction of groundwater flow was generally towards the south-southwest, except in areas of groundwater-altitude depressions, where groundwater flows into the depressions, and near rivers, where groundwater flow generally...
Since the 1940's, commercial, academic and government hydrologists have used aquifer tests to estimate the hydrogeologic properties of an aquifer near test wells. Results from these tests are recorded in various files, databases, reports, and scientific publications. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMG) is aggregating all aquifer test results from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee into a single dataset that is publicly available in a machine-readable format. The LMG-Hydrogeologic Aquifer Test Dataset – December 2021 contains information and results from 690 hydrogeologic aquifer tests. Additionally, this dataset contains 7 attribute tables...
