RGB-averaged orthoimagery of coastal North Carolina, on 2019-11-26, two-months Post-Hurricane Dorian
RGB-averaged orthoimages were created from aerial imagery collected on November 26, 2019, along the North Carolina coast between the Virginia-North Carolina border vicinity and Cape Lookout, North Carolina. These RBG-averaged orthoimages were created to document ground conditions two-months after Hurricane Dorian, which made landfall on the North Carolina coast on September 6, 2019. The RBG-averaged orthoimages help researchers estimate the land surface after Hurricane Dorian and were created to document inter-annual changes in shoreline position and coastal morphology in response to storm events using aerial imagery collections and a structure from motion (SFM) workflow. These data can be used with geographic information...
This dataset is the finished product of the NPS Vegetation Mapping Project at Fire Island National Seashore. This dataset depicts the association-level vegetation map for the entire length of Fire Island and the William Floyd Estate. The park islands in the Great South Bay can be found in a separate file included on the disk. These vegetation polygons were interpreted and delineated from 1:1200-scale true-color aerial photographs taken in April 1997. They are attributed with NVCS associations as well as height, pattern, and density information.
Understanding how sea-level rise will affect coastal landforms and the species and habitats they support is critical for crafting approaches that balance the needs of humans and native species. Given this increasing need to forecast sea-level rise effects on barrier islands in the near and long terms, we are developing Bayesian networks to evaluate and to forecast the cascading effects of sea-level rise on shoreline change, barrier island state, and piping plover habitat availability. We use publicly available data products, such as lidar, orthophotography, and geomorphic feature sets derived from those, to extract metrics of barrier island characteristics at consistent sampling distances. The metrics are then incorporated...

This data package includes a high-water shoreline position map and a structures map for each year from 2016–2019 for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Caillou Lake Headlands project area (TE-0100), also known as Whiskey Island. The project created 170 acres of marsh habitat and 917 acres of dune and beach habitat on Whiskey Island in Terrebonne Parish using material dredged from Ship Shoal. For more information on this restoration project, see the project page on Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) Coastal Information Management System (http://cims.coastal.la.gov/outreach/projects/ProjectView?projID=TE-0100). Together with previous shoreline products developed for CPRA's Barrier...
This dataset represents the shoreline positions that were surveyed at the beginning and end of a one year study of erosion along the back barrier (western shoreline) of Cumberland Island National Seashore (CUIS). Additionally, this dataset also contains projected shoreline positions for the year 2050 and 2100 derived from erosion rates observed in this study and the R package - Analysis of Moving Boundaries Using R (AMBUR). To determine shoreline positions, points were surveyed along the edge of the margin scarp using either a Trimble R8 Real-Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK GPS) unit, a Trimble S6 total station, or both. Points were then converted to a polyline feature to represent the position and...
