This dataset includes skin temperatures of twelve Tadarida brasiliensis held in environmental chambers maintained at 7.7 (SD 0.9) °C and 91.8 (SD 0.8) % relative humidity to induce and support hibernation for up to 3 months. Bats were randomly assigned to infected and control groups at the start of the experiment and infected with conidia of Pseudogymnoascus destructans or a sham treatment (negative control). An iBBat temperature logger (Alpha Mach, Ste-Julie, Quebec, Canada) was attached to the dorsal surface of each bat and programmed to record skin temperature every 15 minutes until the end of the experiment when the bat died or was euthanized.

These data are night level totals of bat calls by species and phonic group recorded at Fort Knox, Kentucky during the summer of 2017. Data contain recordings from zero-crossing frequency division and full spectrum receiving units.

Studies of biological consequences of nuclear industrial contaminants in the environment increase in importance as the potential for exposure of wildlife populations rises. Thus, we examined levels of radiocesium (cesium-137) contamination in wood duck (Aix sponsa) eggs from a Department of Energy nuclear facility in South Carolina during 1990. Radiocesium levels in individual eggs from 5 locations on the site ranged from below detectable concentrations (<0.147 Bq/g) to a maximum of 2.21 Bq/g wet mass. Eggs from an abandoned reactor cooling reservoir contained the greatest burdens; mean egg concentrations there were more than an order of magnitude higher than those from other locations studied. Certain species of tree-dwelling bats die after colliding with the moving blades of industrial wind turbines. Based on the speculation that these bats approach turbines after visually mistaking them for trees, we tested a potential light-based deterrence method. It is likely that the affected bats see ultraviolet (UV) light at low intensities. Demographic look up tables allow the translation of a population growth rate, which is estimable from count data, to a set of vital rates parameterizing the birth and survival processes of the population. These tables are used in the BatTool R package to produce realistic simulations of population abundance trajectories given a range of population growth rates.
This paper empirically examines the dynamic causal relationships between carbon dioxide emissions, energy consumption, economic growth, trade openness and urbanization for the panel of newly industrialized countries (NIC) using the time series data for the period 1971–2007. Using four different panel unit root tests it is found that all panel variables are integrated of order 1. From the Johansen Fisher panel cointegration test it is found that there is a cointegration vector among the variables. Forest cores are derived by applying an inverse buffer (-100m) to forest patches to represent the area of contiguous interior forest habitat. Forest patches are defined as areas of contiguous natural cover bound by non-natural edge or linear fragmenting features (roads, railroads, transmission lines, natural gas pipelines). We documented the type two polyketide synthases(PKS II) gene diversity and novelty by sequencing KSα genes known to synthesize bioactive small molecules. Sequences were derived from culturable bacteria isolated from bats in Arizona and New Mexico. We targeted the PKS II pathway which comprised a large proportion of the culture collection. Genomic analyses of a 16-member subset of bat bacterial isolates were additionally explored to document total BGC diversity and novelty of the bat microbiome. The purpose of this project was to design a national bat monitoring strategy to be used by State, Provincial, and Federal agencies, Tribes, and other partner organizations to monitor bat populations at various spatial scales. Another purpose was to establish a robust database to house the monitoring data as it is collected and maximize the utility of the data to researchers and resource managers. This was a coordinated effort among scientists and researchers in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, and University of Tennessee, National Institute of Mathematical and Biological Synthesis.
