In 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) started collecting high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) data on Lake Koocanusa. The survey originated near the International Boundary (River Mile (RM) 271.0) and extended down the reservoir, hereinafter referred to as downstream, about 1.4 miles downstream of the Montana 37 Highway Bridge near Boulder Creek (about RM 253). USACE continued the survey in 2017, completing a reach that extended from about RM 253 downstream to near Tweed Creek (RM 244.5). In 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Idaho Water Science Center completed the remaining portion of the reservoir from RM 244.5 downstream to Libby Dam (RM 219.9). The MBES data collected in 2016 and 2017...
Bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data were collected in the San Miguel Passage, Channel Islands, California in August 2007 by the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. Data collection was conducted aboard the ship R/V Shearwater as part of the USGS research cruise S-2-07-SC. The San Miguel Passage is within the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, and is the body of water between the two western-most islands of the chain - Santa Rosa and San Miguel Islands. Bathymetry and backscatter data were gridded into 2m-resolution raster and are presented here.
This portion of the USGS data release presents digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from bathymetric and topographic surveys conducted on the Elwha River delta, Washington, in September 2013 (USGS Field Activity Number W-07-13-PS). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected on foot with survey-grade GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station placed on a benchmark with known horizontal and vertical coordinates relative to the North American Datum of 1983 (CORS96 realization)...

In 2015 the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG), collected bathymetry and acoustic-backscatter data near Cross Sound in southeast Alaska using a Reson 7111 multibeam echosounder mounded to the ADFG R/V Solstice. This section of the data release provides the bathymetry data as a GeoTIFF at 10-m spatial resolution. All files have accompanying FGDC metadata.

This portion of the USGS data release presents bathymetry data collected during surveys performed in Floras Lake, Oregon in June 2018 (USGS Field Activity Number 2018-636-FA). Floras Lake is a coastal lake in southern Oregon that is separated from the Pacific Ocean by sand dunes. It is not influenced by tides, although water levels fluctuate seasonally. Lake bed bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) equipped with single-beam sonar systems and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The sonar systems consisted of an Odom Echotrac CV-100 single-beam echosounder and 200 kHz transducer with a 9-degree beam angle. Depths from the lakebed to the echosounder were calculated using...

This portion of the USGS data release presents bathymetry data collected during surveys performed on the Elwha River delta, Washington in April 2014 (USGS Field Activity Number 2014-620-FA). Bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs), each equipped with single-beam sonar systems and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The PWC sonar systems consisted of an Odom Echotrac CV-100 single-beam echosounder and 200 kHz transducer with a 9° beam angle. Raw acoustic backscatter returns were digitized by the echosounder with a vertical resolution of 1.25 cm. Depths from the echosounders were computed using sound velocity profiles measured using a YSI CastAway CTD during the survey....

This portion of the USGS data release presents eelgrass distribution and bathymetry data derived from acoustic surveys of the Nisqually River delta, Washington in 2014 (USGS Field Activity Number D-01-14-PS). Eelgrass and bathymetry data were collected from the R/V George Davidson equipped with a single-beam sonar system and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver. The sonar system consisted of a Biosonics DT-X single-beam echosounder and 420 kHz transducer with a 6-degree beam angle. Depths from the echosounder were computed using sound velocity data measured using a YSI CastAway CTD during the survey. Positioning of the survey vessel was determined at 5 to 10 Hz using a Trimble R7 GNSS receiver and...

This dataset is a polyline shapefile containing bathymetric contours, at 1-meter intervals, of Lago Carite, Puerto Rico. The contours were generated from bathymetric data collected during a sedimentation survey conducted during the period January 23 - January 30, 2018 by the Puerto Rico office of the Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The goals of the survey were to determine reservoir infill sedimentation rates, generate a bathymetric map of the reservoir, and create a stage-volume relation. Field techniques used during the survey were similar to those outlined by Soler-López and Carrasquillo-Nieves, (2001) and Wilson and Richards (2006).A total of 137 planned transect...

This dataset is a digital surface model of the roughness for five (of six) sites where known rock structures exist in the St. Croix River. Roughness is the degree of irregularity of the surface and is computed from elevation. Roughness measures will be used for investigating the use of hydroacoustic technologies for quantifying habitat for imperiled mussels Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers. The determination of the roughness plays a role in the analysis of terrain elevation data; it’s useful for calculations of the river morphology and physical geography in general. Multibeam sonar data were...

This dataset is a digital image mosaic of the backscatter for five (of six) sites where known rock structures exist in the St. Croix River. Backscatter is the strength of the returned signal, or reflectivity, of the riverbed and provides information about bed composition. This data can be used to investigate properties of the riverbed, such as hardness, sediment characteristics and even sediment grain size. Backscatter information will be used for investigating the use of hydroacoustic technologies for quantifying habitat for imperiled mussels Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers.
