This data set contains information on well yield and ancillary information at 7,287 wells in the bedrock aquifer in the Nashoba terrane in central and eastern Massachusetts. Well yield was compiled from records in databases and files of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Geological Survey. Ancillary data include well depth; bedrock geology, surficial geology, topographic setting, and wetlands at the well location; distance of the well to hydrologic and geologic features; and distance of the well to lineaments. The data in this data release were interpreted in U.S. Geological Survey Scientific-Investigations Report 2012-5155.

This dataset is intended to provide seamless, integrated geologic mapping of the U.S. Intermountain West region as a contribution to The National Geologic Map supported by the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program of the U.S. Geological Survey. Surficial and bedrock geology are included in this data release as independent datasets at a variable resolution from 1:50,000 to 1:250,000 scale. No original interpretations are presented in this dataset; rather, all interpretive data are assimilated from referenceable publications. Derivative polygon features created for this dataset demonstrate the distribution of SIGMa-GeMS Geologic Provinces derived from the distribution of map units. Initial contributions to...

This digital data release contains gridded elevation surfaces for twenty-six (26) subsurface horizons, a grid of the estimated thickness of strata eroded during the Cenozoic, and fault traces at the level of the Precambrian surface from a previously published 3D geologic model of the Anadarko Basin Province (Higley and others, 2014). In the original release of the 3D model, elevation surfaces were exported to a Zmap interchange file format, potentially limiting access to the data for users without access to specialized software. In this digital data release, elevation surfaces are provided in more readily accessible formats and modeled horizons are given more thorough stratigraphic descriptions than provided in...

Data release containing geospatial data and metadata for select hydrogeologic characteristics of the alluvium in the Lower Arkansas River Valley, Southeast Colorado, 2002, 2008, and 2015. This data release accompanies U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3378 (https://doi.org/10.3133/sim3378). Geospatial datasets and metadata include: - Rasters showing estimated thickness of the alluvium; fall-to-fall and spring-to-spring water-table altitude change, 2002 to 2008, 2008 to 2015, and 2002 - 2015; and estimated saturated thickness in the alluvium, fall and spring 2002, 2008, and 2015. - Shapefiles showing bedrock contours underlying the alluvium; the outline of the study area and John Martin Reservoir...

Physical properties of geologic units are important for geophysical interpretation because they provide the tie between lithology and geophysical fields. For gravity data, the applicable physical property is bulk density, which is the overall mass per unit volume of rocks, sediments, and their pore spaces. Bulk dry density is the mass per unit volume measured when the sample is dry. Saturated density is the mass per unit volume measured when the sample is saturated with fresh water, which has a density of 1,000 kg/m^3. The two values are commonly compared in order to determine the porosity of a sample, that is, the percentage of the volume that is composed of open space. Density is commonly reported in kilograms...

This raster dataset shows the thickness of the alluvium in the Lower Arkansas River Valley, Southeast Colorado. The bottom boundary defined by bedrock (Hurr and Moore, 1972; Nelson and others, 1989a, b, c) and top boundary defined by land surface from U.S. Geological Survey National Elevation Dataset (2016). All interpolation and geoprocessing was completed in ArcGIS Desktop v10 (Environmental Systems Research Institute, 2011).

This data release consists of point data digitized from structural geologic orientation symbols consisting of mostly foliations and lineations. The data comes from primarily Proterozoic aged rocks in the eastern-central Rocky Mountain Front Range of Colorado. Compilation of the data is from twenty-three geologic maps published by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Colorado Geological Survey between 1964 and 2009, primarily using 7.5-minute, 1:24,000 scale quadrangles. Structural geologic orientation data of planar features (e.g., foliations) and linear features (e.g., fold axes), both with associated attribute values of strike and trend, dip and plunge, location, elevation, and geologic unit were captured for more...

This is a release of data presented in the report "Binational Study of the Transboundary San Pedro Aquifer", Callegary and others, 2016: Callegary, J.B., Minjárez Sosa, I., Tapia Villaseñor, E.M., dos Santos, P., Monreal Saavedra, R., Grijalva Noriega, F.J., Huth, A.K., Gray, F., Scott, C.A., Megdal, S.B., Oroz Ramos, L.A., Rangel Medina, M., Leenhouts, J.M., 2016, Binational Study of the Transboundary San Pedro Aquifer: International Boundary and Water Commission. The United States and Mexico share waters in a number of hydrological basins and aquifers that cross the International Boundary. Both the United States and Mexico recognize that, in a region of scarce water and expanding populations, better...

The bedrock geology for the Glacial Environments and Surficial Sediments (GESS) geodatabase is an amalgamation of several “Integrated Geologic Map Databases for the United States” (Dicken and others, 2008; Ludington and others, 2007; Nicholson and others, 2007-1,-2,-3; Stoeser and others, 2007). Using the LITH62 and LITH62MINO attribute values from that series of maps and the associated lithclass 6.2 code text descriptions from the geodatabase, spatial elements of that geodatabase were grouped. A new GESS attribute was created, “Litho_class,” and each spatial element was given a Litho_class value of non-carbonate sedimentary rock, carbonate rock, non-carbonate metamorphic rock, volcanic rock, plutonic rock, or unconsolidataed...

This Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage (.gpkg) contains water-well point features and associated tables for the state of Minnesota that have been reformatted based on a USGS profile of the OGC GroundWaterML2 (GWML2) standard (https://docs.ogc.org/is/19-013/19-013.html). Additionally, the water-well records have been quality-assured to remove or nullify parts of water-well records found to be erroneous or logically inconsistent, harmonized via the assignment of common data codes in the lithologic log, and supplemented with estimates of transmissivity from the analysis of specific-capacity data. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that...
The Blue Ridge belt in northwestern North Carolina and northeastern Tennessee is composed chiefly of 1,000-million to 1,100-million-year-old metamorphic and plutonic rocks that have been thrust many miles northwestward across unmetamorphosed Cambrian(?) and Cambrian sedimentary rocks of the Unaka belt. The Blue Ridge thrust sheet is rooted on the southeast along the Brevard zone, a zone of strike-slip faulting along which metamorphic and plutonic rocks of the Inner Piedmont belt are juxtaposed with rocks of the Blue Ridge. Near the southeastern edge of the Blue Ridge belt, the Blue Ridge thrust sheet is breached by erosion, and the rocks beneath are exposed in the Grandfather Mountain window, which is 45 miles long...

This website provides digitized shapefiles representing surface geologic features depicted in Matthew S. Walton's unpublished 1960 geologic map of the Elizabethtown quadrangle, Essex County, New York. Features represented by these files include geologic units representing Precambrian basement rock, geologic structures, diabase dikes, mine shaft locations, and water bodies. The shape files in this data release represent Walton's original field observations and interpretations. Walton's detailed notes and a georegistered geotiff image of the original map are also included.

The water-well records provided in this data set have not received additional processing or interpretation by the USGS beyond the GWML2 standardization.
