We investigated fine-scale genetic patterns of the federally threatened Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus) on a relatively undisturbed island in northern Michigan, USA. This species often persists in habitat islands throughout much of its distribution due to extensive habitat loss and distance-limited dispersal. These data are from 102 individual Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes sampled at Bois Blanc Island, Michigan and genotyped at 15 microsatellite loci. Data were collected using GPS radio collars on mares or tail transmitters braided into the tails of stallions, at a 2-hour fix rate for a period spanning 2016 to 2020. To determine the potential for controlling non-native Phragmites australis through use of a cut-to-drown management strategy we performed a controlled greenhouse mesocosm experiment in Ann Arbor, MI during summer 2021. Field collected Phragmites rhizomes from one site within Michigan were propagated, cuttings taken of individual stems and potted in nursery pots. Prior to removal of pest species from an area, resource managers must determine if re-immigration from another population is possible. Voles inhabiting Saddle Rock on the southern Oregon coast are suspected to be partially responsible for declines in the Leach's storm petrel colony on the island. The island is very close to the mainland, and it is potentially accessible during below-average low tides. The federally endangered Cape Sable seaside sparrow (Ammospiza maritima mirabilis) is endemic to the Greater Everglades ecosystem in southern Florida. The subspecies inhabits the fragmented freshwater marl prairies and contains six subpopulations (A-F), named for management purposes, since genetic information is lacking. Point count survey data collected from 1998 through 2018 to estimate palila abundance on Mauna Kea. Point counts were conducted on 32 transects surrounding Mauna Kea volcano on Hawaii Island. Transects extended from roughly treeline through the forested area, with survey stations approximately 150 m apart. Counts were conducted for six minutes, during which the species, distance to, and detection type were recorded for all birds observed. Conservation translocations are a common wildlife management tool that can be difficult to implement and evaluate for effectiveness. Genetic information can provide unique insight regarding local impact of translocations (e.g., presence and retention of introduced genetic variation) and identifying suitable source and recipient populations (e.g., adaptive similarity). We developed two genetic data sets and wrote statistical code to evaluate conservation translocation effectiveness into the isolated northwestern region of the greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) distribution and to retrospectively evaluate adaptive divergence among source and recipient populations.
