Forest- Data collected once using GIS prior to fish sampling. Our approach was to focus the study on smaller, headwater catchments because larger streams drained areas containing both hemlock and mixed hardwood forest, making forest-specific comparison intractable. In addition, most of these larger watersheds were impacted by humans (e.g., impoundments, agriculture, quarries) that could confound our assessment of the influence of hemlock. The geographic information system (GIS) format spatial data set of vegetation for Moores Creek National Battlefield (MOCR) was created by the National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Coast Inventory and Monitoring Network (SECN). The MOCR covers an area of approximately 70 ha (173 acres). The map classification scheme used to create the vegetation data set is designed to represent local plant communities at the finest level possible using the National Vegetation Classification System. The vegetation data set was developed by interpreting aerial photographs collected in 2009 and extensive field surveys. The central Platte River Valley represents a key mid-latitude stopover This dataset supports a contemporary analysis of nocturnal roost selection for sandhill cranes staging along the Platte River during 2003-2007. We explored variation in selection for previously established characteristics of roost sites, including river channel width, vegetation height along the river bank, and distance to nearest disturbance feature. This analysis also included novel environmental factors (yearly estimates of corn near roost sites, nightly temperature, wind speed, and river discharge) and how they may interact with the more established characteristics.

We developed a vegetation classification and high-resolution vegetation map for Petroglyph National Monument, New Mexico, as part of the USGS Vegetation Characterization Program, a cooperative effort by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Park Service Inventory & Monitoring - Vegetation Mapping Program to classify, describe, and map vegetation communities in more than 280 national park units across the United States. The classification and map follow the guidelines and requirements of the national program, and are based on data collected from 499 field plots between 2007 and 2011 plus 469 independent survey points to assess the accuracy of the map and completeness of the classification.

This digital range map represents the range of Colorado pinyon pine (Pinus edulis) in western North America. Data from multiple sources, including existing digitized maps, tabular data, personal communications, USDA Forest Service Inventory and Analysis data, and figures from other publications, were synthesized to create a single digital distribution. The distribution was peer reviewed and iteratively revised based on personal observations of regional authorities.

This dataset provides the results of an assessment of estuary habitat condition in the contiguous United States. To analyze estuary condition, a cumulative disturbance index was developed based on habitat stressor variable data available at a national scale for anthropogenic disturbances measured within estuaries and their associated watersheds. Twenty-eight variables were combined within stressor categories to develop four sub-indices of disturbance for land use, alterations of river flows, pollution sources, and estuary eutrophication. GAP distribution models represent the areas where species are predicted to occur based on habitat associations. GAP distribution models are the spatial arrangement of environments suitable for occupation by a species. In other words, a species distribution is created using a deductive model to predict areas suitable for occupation within a species range. To represent these suitable environments, GAP compiled existing GAP data, where available, and compiled additional data where needed. This data is part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The data consists of date, time, and temperature measurements from intertidal rocky sampling sites. The dataset is 5 comma separated files exported from a download from the HOBO temperature logger. Sites are in Alaska and include locations in Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park and northern and western Prince William Sound. There are five sites in each of those areas. This dataset depicts the predicted probability of Sahara Mustard (Brassica tournefortii) occurrence in the Sonoran Desert Ecoregion, based on a MaxEnt model.
