This data release contains three data sets. The data were collected in 1996 at the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, ND, USA. The main data set comprises the list of plant species observed and includes the transect, plot number, plot size, and vegetation type where each species was found. A second data set has the locations of the transects, along with their IDs which can be linked to the species list. The final data set is a list of nomenclature updates and species that had duplicates in ITIS, along with the currently accepted scientific names of these species.

This dataset details individual species and natural habitat vulnerability rankings, including contextual study-specific information. This data was collected from original publications found through a literature search. Information is cumulative to include climate change vulnerability assessment (CCVA) results summarized in Staudinger et al. (2015) and published as of December 2023.
Hydroacoustic estimates of fish density are used for fisheries management in central Lake Erie. Hydroacoustic data were collected along up to four cross-lake transects in central Lake Erie July 2010 through July 2019. Software-generated raw variables used for calculating estimates of hydroacoustic fish densities are presented here.

The data in this release were used to help evaluate and understand the distribution of fish and invertebrates as well as ecological response to streamflow, water temperature, and water chemistry within the Fountain Creek Basin. This data release consists of invertebrate data collected between 1985 and 2022, fish data collected between 2003 and 2022, as well as the data neccesary to recreate the tables and figures in the associated U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report (http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sirXXXXXXXX). See Zuellig and others (2022) for sampling methodology and site information.

The data support a study that surveyed the spatial distribution of Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus aleuticus eDNA in coastal streams of Big Sur, California, 2021-2022 following post-fire debris flows. The metadata represent qPCR quantification cycle (Cq) values for O. mykiss and C. aleuticus assays performed on water samples collected during June and July of 2021 and 2022 from the following streams: Big Creek, Mill Creek, Prewitt Creek, and Willow Creek. The metadata also includes the distance (meters) of each eDNA sample site from the stream mouth, volume of water (Liters) collected for eDNA analysis at each site, and the Y-intercept, slope, and R-squared value for each assay run.

Data accompanying the manuscript 'Patterns and drivers of early conifer regeneration following stand-replacing wildfire in Pacific Northwest (USA) temperate maritime forests' by Laughlin, Rangel-Parra, Morris, Donato, Halofsky and Harvey published in Forest Ecology and Management. Data include field measurements of post-fire seedling abundance and additional information about the forest stands where data were collected. See the main text of the manuscript for complete descriptions of how data were collected, and greater specifics on values and classifications.

To meet the climate change planning and adaptation needs of Alaska managers and decision makers, I developed a set of statewide summaries of available climate change projections that can be further subset using GIS techniques for requests by management unit, watershed, or other location. This facilitates the development of tailored climate futures for decision makers’ regional or subregional management context. This file describes the source data and summaries for purposes of technical /scientific documentation. The methods and presentation for these datasets were adapted from products in previous USGS-approved IP products for the AKCASC Building Resilience Today project (e.g, Community of Kotlik et al. 2019)....

This dataset includes spatial projections of the post-fire recruitment index for ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) using climate data from different time periods (1980-1989, 1990-1999, 2000-2009, 2010-2014) and a future climate scenario of a global mean increase in temperature of two degrees Celsius. The post-fire recruitment index varies from 0 to 1 and represents the proportion of the first five years following wildfire that had climate suitable for regeneration of the given species. We chose a five-year window because the majority (69%) of recruitment across all sites in the dataset used to build our recruitment models occurred within the first five post-fire years. In the...

This research provides insight on Native Hawaiian relationships to drought historically as well as current practices within community-based management. Of importance are historical records of drought spanning short term in one section of an island to three generations across multiple islands. This dataset represents a survey of the Ulukau, Papakilo Database, and Kuluwaimaka Collection from the Bishop Museum for drought related environmental changes and natural climate indicators, traditional responses to related disasters. First, a review of Hawaiian proverbs (‘ōlelo no‘eau) related to drought and elements impacted by drought (e.g., plants, food resource, death, famine) identify perspectives that reflect household...

To examine Palau residents’ reliance on reef fish, we reviewed published peer-reviewed literature, non-governmental organizations’ surveys, and unpublished data from a survey conducted by this project’s team. Volume of reef fish caught, consumed, and bartered at periurban, urban, and rural states was compared to the area of reefs within state waters to calculate fishing pressure. Data on fish residential consumption was triangulated and synthesized across data sources, including PIs Oleson and Lewis’ unpublished data from a resident survey conducted in 2018, an SPC dataset of fisher households conducted in 2018, and peer-reviewed literature.

Since 2005, the U.S. Geological Survey - Great Lakes Science Center's Lake Erie Biological Station (LEBS) has participated in a collaborative, multiagency effort to assess pelagic prey fish populations in the western (WB), central (CB), and eastern (EB) basins of Lake Erie through a combination of hydroacoustic and midwater trawl sampling. Assessing lake-wide distribution and abundance of pelagic prey species over time facilitates evaluation of large-scale drivers of fish production while also considering food-web dynamics at a smaller sub-basin scale. Information from this survey will support decision making within an ecosystem-based fishery management framework. In support of binational Great Lakes fishery management,...

Field observations in a Lake Ontario embayment suggested that there is a phototaxic response of larval cisco that changes with development. This switch was verified using cultured cisco in a laboratory environment. These data include counts of cisco larvae at three depth ranges within multiple 95 liter tanks. Each tank of larvae were exposed to one of three different light treatments with three replicate tanks per treatment. Light treatments were 24 hours per day of light exposure, 24 hours per day in darkness, and a 12-hour light then 12-hour dark exposure cycle. Observations of cisco positioning within the water column were recorded periodically. The information collected included the date and time of the observation,...

This project aims to estimate spatial and temporal trends of waterfowl and waterbirds on the Arctic Coastal Plain (ACP) of Alaska from 2007 to present. The main approach is motivated by Amundson et al. (2019) using space-time generalized additive models (GAMs, Wood, 2017) but with some improvements to handle observer effects and to associate sampling effort to specific spatial locations along a sampled transect similar to Miller et al. (2013). As part of this effort, a major data quality control process was begun in March 2022 that led to the correction of many data errors and re-formatting of the raw 2007 to 2023 data (available at here) to make it more accessible and usable to outside partners. Because of the...
