The Commission on Environmental Cooperation, in concert with a trinational group of experts, has identified North American species of common conservation concern (SCCC). These terrestrial and marine species comprise a group of important migratory, transboundary and endemic species selected from among the continent’s great wealth of wild flora and fauna, which require regional cooperation for their effective conservation.
Oklahoma encompasses portions of four Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCC’s) across the state and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) is a potential partner on each of these LCC Steering Committees. The largest commitment for ODWC participation will be with the Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC) which is Oklahoma’s largest LCC in terms of geographic coverage. ODWC requests funding to build capacity within the agency in order to better serve as science partners with the GPLCC. The development and subsequent distribution of spatial products will be the primary function of the project. These products will include a 5-state LEPC decision support tool, Black-Tailed Prairie...

This dataset contains the result of the bioclimatic-envelope modeling of the six mammal species -- (a) New Mexican Jumping Mouse (Zapus hudsonius luteus), (b) Northern Pygmy Mouse (Baiomys taylori), (c) Gunnison's Prairie Dog (Cynomys gunnisoni), (d) Black-tailed Prairie Dog (Cynomys ludovicianus), (e) American Pika (Ochotona princeps), and (e) Swift Fox (Vulpes velox) -- in the South Central US using the downscaled data provided by WorldClim. We used five species distribution models (SDM) including Generalized Linear Model, Random Forest, Boosted Regression Tree, Maxent, and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) and ensembles to develop the present day distributions of the species based on climate-driven...

The following vegetation map units were combined and recoded to 1 if they occurred on slopes less than or equal to 10%: Apacherian-Chihuahuan Semi-Desert Grassland and Steppe, Chihuahuan Loamy Plains Desert Grasslands, Apacherian-Chihuahuan Mesquite Upland Scrub, Chihuahuan Creosotebush Desert Scrub, and Agriculture. The extents of the map units were limited to HUC boundaries that included historic locations of black-tailed prairie dog towns and/or expert opinion. In some cases, there were HUCs that did not have evidence of historic towns, but were considered to contain sufficient habitat types to include within the model. In other cases, there was limited habitat and the boundaries of the HUC were clipped to include...

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is cooperating with private, state, and federal partners to produce a new land classification map for Texas, based on the NatureServe Ecological System Classification System as described by Comer (2003), with a spatial resolution of 1 acre. The basic steps are to identify mapping sub-systems using ecological systems as a starting point, to collect data from air photos and the field to implement a supervised classification on Landsat TM imagery, and to use ecoregions, SSURGO soils, DEM-based variables, and hydrology to help interpret the ecological meaning of final mapping targets. Mapping of Texas High Plains and western portions of the Southwestern Tablelands and part of...
