During the two years from 24 May 1978 to 7 June 1980, the battery subsystem for the 100-kW peak photovoltaic power system for Natural Bridges National Monument was designed, modified, tested, installed, retested and again modified. The subsystem includes 224 lead-acid (with calcium alloy) cells, hydrogen recombiners, an air-lift pump system and electrolyte level indicators. Problems and solutions related to these subsystem components are discussed. Further details concerning the battery selection, design, tests and performance throughout the battery's life are also included. Published by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory, in 1981.

This data release provides multi-element data for drill core samples from the Mesoproterozoic Nonesuch Formation and Copper Harbor Conglomerate at the Copperwood copper deposit, Michigan, USA. Copper was determined by assay, and sulfur by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) after aqua regia digestion for most samples. Multi-element whole rock analyses were determined for selected samples. The Copperwood copper deposit is a sediment-hosted stratiform copper deposit in the Presque Isle Syncline of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The deposit has a 2018 mineral resource estimate of 42.2 million metric tons (Mt) of measured plus indicated mineral resources in the Lower Copper Bearing Sequence...

In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began a study of more than 50 major river basins across the Nation as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project. One of the major goals of the NAWQA project was to determine how river water quality has changed over time. To support that goal, long-term consistent and comparable monitoring has been conducted by the USGS on streams and rivers throughout the Nation. Outside of the NAWQA project, the USGS and other Federal, State, and local agencies also have collected long-term water-quality data to support their own assessments of changing water quality. In 2017, data from these multiple sources were combined to support one of the most comprehensive assessments...

Calcium and pH data collected at lake, reservoir, impoundment and stream site types in the Columbia River Basin. These data were downloaded from the National Water Quality Portal on 03/31/2022 and cleaned and filtered. We limited calcium data to just those values that described dissolved calcium and total calcium concentrations. We included total calcium to maximize the amount of data available for this risk assessment; dissolved and total calcium are strongly correlated since dissolved calcium is a constituent part of total calcium. We then cleaned these data by filtering to just those entries associated with water (‘ActivityMediaName’ = Water); dropping rows with ‘NA’ values; removing white spaces; removing duplicated...

Geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) Mineral Resources Section conducted four weeks of helicopter-supported mapping and fieldwork from June 26 through July 24, 2013. The Styx River project in the Lime Hills C-1 Quadrangle was part of the State-funded Airborne Geophysical/Geological Mineral Inventory (AGGMI) program as part of the State's Strategic Minerals Assessment Project, an initiative designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for rare-earth elements, PGEs, and other similarly supply-challenged resources. The Styx River project area has active and ongoing mineral exploration for deposit types including porphyry copper/molybdenum/gold, reduced intrusion-related gold, and...

This data release contains geochemical data from selected U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) projects from the 1960s-1980s that were previously unpublished as digital data. The objective of those projects was to describe the geology, determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics, or to evaluate the mineral resource potential of Federal Lands and adjacent study areas. These data comprise geochemical analyses from 36,498 samples--27,223 rock samples, 4,091 sediment samples, 2,351 soil samples, 330 heavy-mineral pan concentrate samples, 297 organic material samples, 58 mineral samples, 27 water samples, 11 miscellaneous samples, and 2,110 unspecified media samples. More than 78 percent of these samples were analyzed...

Phosphorus (P) efficiency (shoot dry weight at low P/shoot dry weight at high P) of a cultivar is the ability to produce a high yield in a soil that is limited in that element for a standard genotype. The large variation in P efficiency of different crops provides opportunities for screening crop species that perform well on low phosphorus soil. To explain the differences in P efficiency of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) cultivars a glasshouse pot experiment was conducted by using P-deficient soil [0.5 M sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)-extractable P 8.54 mg kg-1] treated with 0 (low P) and 100 mg P kg-1 soil (high P). The relationship between P efficiency and P, calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn)...

This location is part of the Arizona Mineral Industry Location System (AzMILS), an inventory of mineral occurences, prospects and mine locations in Arizona. Cochise213 is located in T20S R22E Sec 11 SE in the Tombstone - 7.5 Min quad. This collection consists of various reports, maps, records and related materials acquired by the Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources regarding mining properties in Arizona. Information was obtained by various means, including the property owners, exploration companies, consultants, verbal interviews, field visits, newspapers and publications. Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a helicopter-supported geological and geochemical resource assessment project in the Beaver, Bettles, Livengood, and Tanana quadrangles from June 23 through August 5, 2012. The objectives of DGGS's resource assessment are to improve the trace-element geochemical coverage of selected watersheds; to obtain modern, quantitative geochemical analyses; to understand the petrogenesis of the granites; and to better document established mineral occurrences. Stream-sediment, pan-concentrate, and rock sampling were conducted as part of the State's Rare Earth Elements and Strategic Minerals Assessment project, which is...

These data were compiled to quantify the role of Lake Powell in modulating salinity and reducing overall salt flux from the Upper Colorado River Basin downstream. In addition, these data were used to infer summertime calcite precipitation in Lake Powell (the major proposed sink for salt within the system). The Lake Powell Calcium Magnesium data contains summertime surface water calcium and magnesium concentrations along three transects that span the two major inflows to Lake Powell and the region of Lake Powell closest to the dam. The Modeled Salinity data was used to compare measured total dissolved solid concentrations at Lees Ferry to the instantaneous flow-weighted concentration of total dissolved solid entering...
Lead (Pb) and calcium (Ca) concentrations were measured in fillet samples of longear sunfish (Lepomis megalotis) and suckers (Catostomidae) collected in 2005‒12 from the Big River, which drains a historical mining area in southeastern Missouri, where a consumption advisory is in effect due to elevated Pb concentrations in fish. Regression analysis indicated that fillet Ca explained 75‒>99% of fillet Pb variation in mining-affected stream reaches. We used analysis-of-covariance to standardize Pb concentration to a common Ca concentration (415 ug/g wet weight), which reduced differences between taxa. Variation among sites and years also was reduced after Ca-normalization, as was the number of samples that exceeded...
