Identification of priority areas is a fundamental goal in conservation biology. Because of a lack of detailed information about species distributions, conservation targets in the Zhoushan Archipelago (China) were established on the basis of a species-area-habitat relationship (choros model) combined with an environmental cluster analysis (ECA). An environmental-distinctness index was introduced to rank areas in the dendrogram obtained with the ECA. To reduce the effects of spatial autocorrelation, the ECA was performed considering spatial constraints. To test the validity of the proposed index, a principal component analysis-based environmental diversity approach was also performed. The priority set of islands obtained...
Streamflow prediction in ungauged basins provides essential information for water resources planning and management and ecohydrological studies yet remains a fundamental challenge to the hydrological sciences. A methodology is presented for stratifying streamflow regimes of gauged locations, classifying the regimes of ungauged streams, and developing models for predicting a suite of ecologically pertinent streamflow metrics for these streams. Eighty-four streamflow metrics characterizing various flow regime attributes were computed along with physical and climatic drainage basin characteristics for 150 streams with little or no streamflow modification in Colorado, Washington, and Oregon. The diverse hydroclimatology...

This data release identifies 555 Hydro-Climatic Data Network (HCDN) streamgages in the conterminous United States during the period 1981-2019 which were grouped according to similarity in their temporal patterns of monthly streamflow.

This data release documents time-series analyses of aqueous-chemistry data from public-supply wells (PSWs) and associated potential explanatory factors to characterize responses of groundwater quality to drought and recovery periods in California’s San Joaquin Valley (SJV) during 2000-2022. Annual median nitrate values were computed for PSWs throughout the SJV during the period of study. Median annual nitrate values were calculated at all PSWs with available data in the SJV, resulting in a total of 698 PSWs with complete annual records after single-year linear gap imputation. A total of 237 of these records were classified as “low variance” because they contained proportions of identical values exceeding 80 percent...

This dataset was developed as part of the research for a Royal Roads University master's thesis entitled "Assessing the impact of human activities on British Columbia’s estuaries". The work was also published through PLOS One (Robb, 2014). The estuary polygons were created by the Pacific Estuary Conservation Program (PECP). Please see Ryder et al., 2007 for more information on their creation. This dataset includes a subset of the PECP estuary dataset because only those estuary polygons that could be linked to to a unique watershed were considered in the analysis. The attributes for each estuary polygon show the spatial coverage of different human activities within the bounds of the estuary and its upstream watershed....
