This data release provides a list of 2,304 water-quality sampling sites indexed to NHDPlus v2.1 flowlines along with the verified ComIDs. ComIDs are the unique identifiers for NHDPlus flowlines and allow the sites to be joined to ancillary and watershed information from other sources published for that purpose. The sites include those assembled for the period 1972-2012 by the U.S. Geological Survey Surface Water Status and Trends project of the National Water-Quality Program (Oelsner and others, 2017, https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20175006), as well as additional water-quality sites assembled for the 2013-2017 time period. This raster depicts the percentage of lithological sulfur (S) content in surface or near surface geology. We derived these rasters by calculating the average percent S content for each map unit in combined surficial-bedrock geologic maps. We used state geologic maps (Preliminary Integrated Geologic Map Databases for the United States, Open File Reports 2004-1355, 2005-1305, 2005-1323, 2005-1324, 2005-1325, 2005-1351, and 2006-1272), which depict surficial geology instead of bedrock when the surficial layers are sufficiently deep. This dataset includes four tables related to annual trends in streamflow metrics at 599 reference streamgages in the conterminous United States for the period 1955-2014. Reference streamgages are defined here as gages with drainage basins that are minimally impacted by anthropogenic effects such as reservoirs or urbanization. The four tables are: 1) computed annual values for 16 streamflow metrics, 2) trend estimates for the 16 streamflow metrics for the period 1955-2014, 3) metric names and definitions, and 4) location information (latitude and longitude) for the 599 sites. In support of the USGS LandCarbon project, field observations of stream and lake carbon gas fluxes and other water-quality data were collected from surface waters in the conterminous US. The sampling was designed to cover a variety of geographic, climatic, and environmental settings to better understand the ranges and distributions of carbon gas fluxes from surface waters. Phenological dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems reflect the response of the Earth's vegetation canopy to changes in climate and hydrology and are thus important to monitor operationally. This product is a series of six national 1-kilometer (km) raster datasets, for five year intervals between 1985 and 2010, representing USGS Water Use "Total Fresh Water Withdrawals", allocated to areas of land use representing anthropogenic use. Pixels representing anthropogenic uses (urban, agriculture, and mining land uses) are derived from the NAWQA Wall-to-wall Anthropogenic Land-use Trends (NWALT) product (Falcone, 2015), a series of decadal national raster datasets for the period 1974-2012. The raster datasets created here are intended as a source of information for estimating water use for watersheds, at the scale of HUC12 watersheds and coarser. Units are millions of gallons per day (mgd) per square km.

The value of each cell of the raster dataset corresponds to the 1-km cell number defined as 'cellnum' in the attributes of the vector data. We developed a 30-m spatial resolution forest regrowth time map for CONUS over 1985–2017. This map is the first attempt, as far as we know, to quantify tree regrowth rate at a national extent in the United States. The method used all available Landsat images to detect disturbances over forest lands and classify grass/shrub to tree class transitions on an annual basis. The average regrowth time was then calculated for each pixel that experienced tree regrowth process. The regrowth map was validated with independent reference data, showing average one-year of difference and 6-year standard deviation difference in the national tree regrowth time. Snow persistence (SP) or the snow cover index (SCI), is the fraction of time that snow is present on the ground for a defined period. Cloud covered index (CCI) is the fraction of time that there is no data, cloud, or sensor saturation for the same period. SP and CCI were calculated on a pixel by pixel basis using MODIS/Terra Snow Cover 8-Day L3 Global 500m Grid, Collection 6 obtained from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).
