The purpose of the Coral Reef Evaluation and Monitoring Project (CREMP) is to monitor the status and trends of selected reefs in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary(FKNMS). CREMP assessments have been conducted annually at fixed sites since 1996 and data collected provides information on the temporal changes in benthic cover and diversity of stony corals and associated marine flora and fauna. The core field methods continue to be underwater videography and timed coral species inventories. Findings presented in this report include data from 109 stations at 37 sites sampled from 1996 through 2008 in the Florida Keys and 1999 through 2008 in the Dry Tortugas. The report describes the annual differences (between...

These data were compiled as part of a field and growth chamber study of the establishment of Salsola tragus (Russian thistle), an invasive non-native annual plant in North America. Field work was conducted at Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona in 2015 and 2016 and the growth chamber study was conducted in 2016. The data represent field measurements of Salsola germination and growth (cover) and sediment movement at two field sites, one a stabilized sand sheet (SS) and the other on the ridge of a sand dune (SD). The data also represent a growth chamber assessment of the soil and litter seed bank from representative samples take at the two field sites.

Percent perennial plant cover. The total perennial plant cover data were modeled using Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) collected by the MODIS satellite and composited over 16-day intervals (Wallace and others, 2008), combined with field measurements of total perennial cover, estimated from line intercept transects at locations across the Mojave Desert (Webb and others, 2003, 2009; Thomas and others, unpublished data; Wallace and others, 2008). Total perennial cover was related to elevation and 2001 through 2004 MODIS-EVI data at the transect locations (R2 = 0.82), and the resulting model was used to extrapolate cover estimates for the remaining study area. The...

Plot-level field data were collected in the summer of 2014 to estimate aboveground and belowground biomass in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and Dismal Swamp State Park in North Carolina and Virginia. Data were collected at 85 plots. The location of the center of each plot was recorded with a Trimble ProXH global positioning system (GPS) and differentially corrected. Data files included 1: GDS_plots.csv, 2. GDS_FWD.csv, 3. GDS_LWD.csv, 4. GDS_Shrubs.csv, 5. GDS_Trees.csv, and 6. GDS_plot_summaries.csv. The data contained in GDS_plot_summaries.csv were calculated from the GDS_plots.csv, GDS_FWD.csv, GDS_LWD.csv, GDS_Shrubs.csv, GDS_Trees.csv files using the R statistical software environment (R Core...

This dataset contains polygons describing photo interpreted map classifications of the Tongass National Forest developed in 1978. The dataset's primary objective was to delineate major land types and their attributes. The land types were mapped at a polygon level - areas generally homogenous in character. Mapping was done to a 10 acre minimum except for non-commercial and non-forest types which were mapped to a 5 acre minimum. The classification identifies water as well as land. It segregates land into non-forest and forest. Polygons in forested areas were assigned a single, representative set of attributes; species composition, age, and volume class. Tim86 was updated in the 1980's (mostly in 1986) to reflect timber...

This dataset was developed as part of the Designing Sustainble Landscapes project led by Professor Kevin McGarigal of UMass Amherst and sponsored by the North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog); for more information about the entire project see: http://www.umass.edu/landeco/research/dsl/dsl.htmlThis dataset was last updated 02/2017. The revised version incorporates the addition of a simplified version of The Nature Conservancy's Northeast lakes and ponds classification, visit https://www.conservationgateway.org/ConservationByGeography/NorthAmerica/UnitedStates/edc/reportsdata/freshwater/Pages/Northeast-Lakes.aspx for more details. This dataset represents terrestrial...

The Land Cover Data - Version 1.0 represents a highly thematically detailed land cover map of the U.S. The map legend includes types described by NatureServe's Ecological Systems Classification (Comer et al. 2002) as well as land use classes described in the National Land Cover Dataset 2001 (Homer et al. 2007). This version of the land cover data was used to support the Gap Analysis Project's vertebrate species modeling efforts. These data cover the entire continental U.S. and are a continuous data layer. These raster data have a 30 m x 30 m cell resolution. This land cover data set is considered official foundational data for the GAP species modeling process. The data have been made available provisionally to enhance...

The percent tree canopy layer quantifies per pixel tree canopy fraction as a continuous variable from 1 to 100 percent. The file is an 8 Bit continuous data file that will contain values from 0 to 255 when displayed in a software package. The value of '127' is a 'No Data' value applied to areas outside of the modeled percent tree canopy extent. This dataset was derived from the following source: - The Multi-Resolution Land Cover Consortium (MRLC) National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD), last updated in 2001. For more information on the MRLC visit: http://www.mrlc.gov/

Reclassed LANDFIRE areas of just sagebrush (1) and no sagebrush (0, areas with originally no sagebrush or recently burned areas). Landfire codes were: 2080, 2125, 2126, 2220, 2064, 2072, 2079, 2124). This layer is an intermediate layer used to create a sagebrush landscape cover layer using a moving window analysis. See Landfire metadata for an assessment of that data. See WFDSS, GEOMAC and MTBS fire metadata for more information on those data.

The original CoverType Dataset was clipped by the four Ranger Districts of interest:Â Thorne Bay, Craig, Wrangell, and Petersburg.Below is the information from the original dataset:CoverType is a photo-interpreted delineation of the Tongass National Forest by land type and timber cover type. Classification of lands was done sequentially: 1) land and water identified; 2) forested and non-forested areas were identified; 3) forested areas were classified by forest type and forest productivity; and 4) productive forest lands were further characterized by volume class, tree size, species composition. The original classifications were based on photo-interpretation of 1:15840 aerial photographs in 1978. The minimum map...

Some of the SNK rasters intentionally do not align or have the same extent. These rasters were not snapped to a common raster per the authors' discretion. Please review selected rasters prior to use. These varying alignments are a result of the use of differing source data sets and all products derived from them. We recommend that users snap or align rasters as best suits their own projects. - The classification of local-scale ecosystems (ecotypes) combines physiography (e.g., riverine, coastal), topography (DEM), geology and vegetation from the landcover spectral database derived from the satellite image processing. A bare earth Digital Elevation Model (DEM) created from 2013 LiDAR LAS files for Wilson and Karnes counties in Texas. LiDAR data collection was funded by the Texas Water Development Board. LiDAR LAS files were acquired from Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS). The DEM is a dataset that depicts the topography of the bare earth surface (i.e. surface minus vegetation, buildings, powerlines, etc). This dataset was developled to be used in conjunction with the DSM to create a vegetation height surface (nDSM). The LAS point cloud was filtered to ground points only and the mean z value was calculated. A Digital Surface Model (DSM) created from 2013 LiDAR LAS files for Wilson and Karnes counties in Texas....

We conducted a case studies testing effectiveness of a soil borne bacteria, Pseudomonas fluorescens strain D7, in controlling Bromus tectorum (cheatgrass) and in affecting the density of sown desirable seedlings. Response variables (foliar cover, aboveground biomass, and density of B. tectorum; density of sown native plants) were measured for three years after treatment.
