Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) have a critical need for information management processes that facilitate science product (i.e., data, analysis and decision tools, documents) sharing; data storage, security, and dissemination; and project tracking, communication and collaboration tools (Arctic LCC 2010, North Atlantic LCC 2011, Southern Rockies LCC 2011, California LCC 2011). LCCs and their partners are already developing and using a wide variety of data management systems to address LCC and project needs, but the LCC Network and all partners need better coordination across these efforts to develop and share common standards and services, improving the intellectual exchange needed to achieve the LCC mission....
The Great Basin Landscape Conservation Cooperative’s (Great Basin LCC) Conservation Planning Atlas (CPA) is a new geospatial portal that allows users to create and share unique mapping products. It incorporates over 1000 spatial data layers related to conservation of the Great Basin’s many natural and cultural resources. The CPA provides managers, researchers and planners from state, federal, local, NGO and private partners a valuable suite of tools for collaborative spatial planning. All of this information is housed in a single website where readers can access regional spatial layers, decision support tools, and Great Basin LCC project information and products. The CPA is one key part in the Great Basin LCC’s...

FY2014The Conservation Biology Institute (CBI) will work with the Great Basin to develop a Conservation Planning Atlas (also commonly called gateways) using Data Basin technology (www.databasin.org) to serve the data integration, collaboration and partner engagement needs.Conservation Planning Atlases (CPA) are a customized interface of the Data Basin platform that include special branding, curation of spatial content, direct links to selected sites (e.g., other LCC Conservation Planning Atlas (e.g., nplcc.databasin.org), additional upload capacity if needed, and access to premium analytical tools. The CPA will allow Great Basin LCC staff and stakeholders to integrate spatial information to coordinate and promote...

The FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) provide a concise and measurable strategy for optimizing the reuse of scientific data (Wilkinson et al., 2016). In FY20, the U.S. Geological Survey initiated a research study, titled "State of the Data", to evaluate and report on the current FAIRness of USGS data. Project outputs include the USGS FAIR Rubric, which can be used to evaluate a dataset against the FAIR principles, and the results of ~400 USGS dataset assessments completed using this rubric. These results will provide a baseline for measuring future improvement in FAIRness of USGS public data. This data release contains the FAIR rubric in .xlsx format, the assessment dataset in...

Wadeable stream habitat data from four long-term monitoring programs (AIM, AREMP, NRSA, PIBO MP) were obtained, pre-processed, transformed, and combined using R code following the Stream Habitat Metrics Integration (SHMI) Data Exchange Standard. The dataset includes 26 stream habitat metrics collected between 2000 and 2022 across the United States at ~12,000 locations from ~19,000 data collection events for a total of ~200,000 measurements. Measurements include reach characteristics (sampled reach length, channel gradient, sinuosity), channel dimensions (bankfull width and height, average bankfull width to depth ratio, mean thalweg depth, average wetted width), channel substrate particle sizes (percent fines, percent...

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are overgrowths of algae or cyanobacteria in water and can be harmful to humans and animals directly via toxin exposure or indirectly via changes in water quality and related impacts to ecosystems services, drinking water characteristics, and recreation. While HABs occur frequently throughout the United States, the driving conditions behind them are not well understood, especially in flowing waters. In order to facilitate future national model development and characterization of HABs, this data release publishes a synthesized and cleaned collection of HABs-related water quality and quantity data for river and stream sites across the United States. It includes nutrients, major ions, sediment,...

The Great Basin LCC Conservation Planning Atlas (CPA) brings cloud-based functionality and collaborative features to a geospatial platform for conservation initiatives across the Great Basin. The CPA resides within the Data Basin online platform, allowing users and groups to create unique collaborative mapping products for their projects. Drawing on over 16,000 datasets currently in Data Basin–including high-priority datasets from LANDFIRE, BLM, USGS, and others–users are able to share maps within public or private groups and then to dynamically interact with those products as a group. In addition to the collaborative planning features, the CPA also provides the Great Basin LCC with another platform through which...

This Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage (.gpkg) contains water-well point features and associated tables for the state of Oklahoma that have been reformatted based on a USGS profile of the OGC GroundWaterML2 (GWML2) standard (https://docs.ogc.org/is/19-013/19-013.html). The water-well records provided in this data set have not received additional processing or interpretation by the USGS beyond the GWML2 standardization. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that have been standardized to a common format for consistency across state and administrative boundaries. Water-well completion reports that are submitted to permitting state agencies...

Additionally, the water-well records have been quality-assured to remove or nullify parts of water-well records found to be erroneous or logically inconsistent, harmonized via the assignment of common data codes in the lithologic log, and supplemented with estimates of transmissivity from the analysis of specific-capacity data. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release represents the Oklahoma component of the National Water-Well Database (NWWDB). The NWWDB is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that have been standardized to a common format for consistency across state and administrative boundaries. Water-well completion reports that are submitted to permitting state agencies by licensed drillers constitute a large source of hydrogeologic information, including the locations and distribution of water wells, construction materials and completion depths, lithologic logs, groundwater levels, and the results of pumping or aquifer tests. Standardization was performed based on a USGS profile of the Open Geospatial...
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) - Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) - Gap Analysis Project (GAP) manages the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US), an Arc10x geodatabase, that includes a full inventory of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity and to other natural, recreation, historic, and cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means (www.usgs.gov/core-science-systems/science-analytics-and-synthesis/gap/science/protected-areas). The PAD-US is developed in partnership with many organizations, including coordination groups at the [U.S.] Federal level, lead organizations for each State, and a number of national and other non-governmental...

The Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Forests, Lands, & Natural Resource Operations, in partnership with Simon Fraser University and the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center, led a third workshop to develop cross-boundary geospatial and climate data sets in support of regional conservation applications across NPLCC international boundaries. The workshop will provide opportunities for communicating and discussing priorities for the exchange, development and unification of geospatial and climate datasets.
