In 1998, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Fisheries Independent Monitoring (FIM) program began a long-term monitoring effort of key reef fish populations in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. This effort was aimed at evaluating the relative abundance, size structure, and habitat utilization of specific reef fish species that are targeted by commercial and recreational fisheries. The data may be used and redistributed for free but is not intended for legal use, since it may contain inaccuracies. Neither the data Contributor, ERD, NOAA, nor the United States Government, nor any of their employees or contractors, makes any warranty, express or implied, including warranties...

This data release consists of a set of tiled orthophotos of the Salcha River in Alaska acquired on July 25, 2019. The orthophotos were produced from images obtained using a Hasselblad A6D-100C 100 megapixel digital mapping camera deployed within a pod mounted on the landing gear of a Robinson R44 helicopter. Images were acquired as the helicopter transited a series of flight lines designed to provide complete coverage, with ample overlap, of the study area along the Salcha River. Also within the pod was an ATLANS GPS/Inertial Motion Unit (IMU) that recorded the position and orientation of the platform during the flight. This information was used to geo-reference the images by performing aerial triangulation and...

Multispectral satellite image data from the upper Sacramento River in northern California were acquired on October 18, 2017, to support research on remote sensing of rivers, particularly retrieval of water depth, and to facilitate efforts to characterize salmon habitat conditions and geomorphic change along the upper Sacramento River. These data were collected by the WorldView-3 (WV3) satellite, operated by DigitalGlobe and obtained through the EnhancedView license program administered by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); the image data remain copyright of DigitalGlobe (2018). DigitalGlobe performed initial radiometric and geometric processing of the image. The data were acquired from the WorldView-3...

The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetric survey of a reach of the Deschutes River near Bend, OR, between Benham Falls and Dillon Falls on July 25, 2016, to support research on remote sensing of river discharge and characterization of habitat for amphibians, particularly the Oregon Spotted Frog (Rana pretiosa). The bathymetric survey data were obtained with an ITER Systems Bathyswath-1 468 kHz multi-beam echo sounder deployed from a customized research cataraft. The Bathyswath Swath Processor software package was used to acquire the raw data, which then were post-processed, filtered, and gridded using the Bathyswath Grid Processor program. The final output file included in this data release consists of...

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas on August 25 as a category 4 hurricane with wind gusts exceeding 150 miles per hour. As Harvey moved inland the forward motion of the storm slowed down and produced tremendous rainfall amounts to southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. Historic flooding occurred in Texas and Louisiana as a result of the widespread, heavy rainfall over an 8-day period in Louisiana in August and September 2017. Following the storm event, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrographers recovered and documented 2,123 high-water marks in Texas, noting location and height of the water above land surface. Many of these high-water marks were used to create flood-inundation maps for...

This set of soils data consists of mineral depth, and three layers each of sand, clay, and rock fragment fractions. The soils data were obtained from Kern (2000), using methodology from Kern (1995) with corrected inconsistencies and gap filling from NRCS (1994).

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (river bottom elevation) in XYZ format and measurements of sediment depth in CSV format, generated from the February 13–14, 2017, topographic and hydrographic survey of the Des Plaines River near Brandon Road Lock and Dam at Joliet, Illinois. Hydrographic data were collected in three separate areas (approach channel, mooring area, and upstream pool) using a multibeam echo-sounder (MBES) with integrated inertial navigation solution (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Sediment depth data were collected in the approach channel using navigational software and probing equipment mounted on a marine survey vessel.

Field spectra were collected from the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, WY, August 23, 2015, to support research on remote sensing of rivers. Reflectance measurements were made from a raft in the Swallow Bend reach of the Snake River using an Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec3 spectroradiometer operated in reflectance mode. The depth at each spectral measurement location was interpolated from field measurements of depth obtained with an acoustic Doppler current profiler. This data release provides both the reflectance spectra and the interpolated depths and can be used to develop relationships between depth and reflectance for mapping river bathymetry from field spectra or passive optical remotely sensed...

This dataset includes vertical velocity profiles and river discharge at the cross section of interest where velocity measurements were taken on the Arkansas and South Platte Rivers in Colorado and the Salcha and Tanana Rivers in Alaska. Each profile contains measurements from at least six depths across the cross section in order to have a full two-dimensional cross-section velocity profile across the river. Each profile contains measurements at various depths at the y-axis, which is the vertical in the cross-sectional profile where the maximum velocity (umax) occurs. These measurements were taken using a Flowtracker2 instrument (SonTek, 2020) when wading was possible; if wading was not possible, measurements were...
The following spreadsheets contain discharge measurements that were used to develop rating curves for each stream gage. The numbers on each tab refer to the date the measurement was collected. Each spreadsheet contains distance, depth, and velocity measurements used to calculate discharge in centimeters and highlighted in yellow.

Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the Colorado River near Lees Ferry, Arizona, March16-18, 2021, to support research on remote sensing of water depth from satellite images. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained along a series of cross-sections using a SonTek RiverSurveyor M9 acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed from a boat. The spatial location of each measurement was obtained using a differential GPS included as part of the RiverSurveyor M9 ADCP instrument package. The map projection and datum for these data are UTM Zone 12S and WGS84, respectively. The USGS Qrev software program was used to ingest and process the raw ADCP data. The Qrev data...

Hyperspectral image data and various field measurements were acquired from a reach of the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, WY, August 19-24, 2015, to support research on remote sensing of rivers. This parent data release includes links to child pages for the following data sets: 1) hyperspectral image data; 2) ground-based depth measurements obtained by wading and with with an acoustic Doppler current profiler; 3) reflectance spectra acquired from a raft; and 4) an irradiance profile used to characterize attenuation of light by the water column. Please refer to the individual child pages for further detail about each data set. Overall, these data were used to develop improved methods of estimating water...

A vertical profile of downwelling spectral irradiance at different depths within the water column was measured on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, WY, August 23, 2015, to support research on remote sensing of rivers. Downwelling spectral irradiance data were collected using an Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec3 spectroradiometer operated in irradiance mode and deployed from a customized measurement crane. The measurements were made in a reach downstream of Jackson Lake referred to as Swallow bend. In addition, the depth at which each downwelling spectral irradiance measurement was made was obtained using an Onset Hobo pressure transducer mounted next to the spectroradiometer foreoptic on the crane....

This data publication is a compilation of six different multibeam surveys covering the previously unmapped Queen Charlotte Fault offshore southeast Alaska and Haida Gwaii, Canada. These data were collected between 2005 and 2018 under a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey, Natural Resources Canada, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The six source surveys from different multibeam sonars are combined into one terrain model with a 30-m resolution. A complementary polygon shapefile records the extent of each source survey in the output grid.
