This data publication is a compilation of six different multibeam surveys covering the previously unmapped Queen Charlotte Fault offshore southeast Alaska and Haida Gwaii, Canada. These data were collected between 2005 and 2018 under a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey, Natural Resources Canada, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The six source surveys from different multibeam sonars are combined into one terrain model with a 30-m resolution. A complementary polygon shapefile records the extent of each source survey in the output grid.

In 1998, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Fisheries Independent Monitoring (FIM) program began a long-term monitoring effort of key reef fish populations in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. This effort was aimed at evaluating the relative abundance, size structure, and habitat utilization of specific reef fish species that are targeted by commercial and recreational fisheries.; Smith, S.G., et al. 2011, Multispecies survey design for assessing reef-fish stocks, spatially explicit management performance, and ecosystem condition. Fisheries Research 109(2011)25-41; Brandt, M.E., et. al. 2009, A Cooperative Multi-agency Reef Fish Monitoring Protocol for the Florida Keys Coral...

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas on August 25 as a category 4 hurricane with wind gusts exceeding 150 miles per hour. As Harvey moved inland the forward motion of the storm slowed down and produced tremendous rainfall amounts to southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. Historic flooding occurred in Texas and Louisiana as a result of the widespread, heavy rainfall over an 8-day period in Louisiana in August and September 2017. Following the storm event, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrographers recovered and documented 2,123 high-water marks in Texas, noting location and height of the water above land surface. Many of these high-water marks were used to create flood-inundation maps for...

An unmanned aerial system was used to acquire hyperspectral image data from the upper Sacramento River in northern California on September 13, 2017, to support research on remote sensing of rivers, particularly retrieval of water depth, and to facilitate efforts to characterize salmon habitat conditions and geomorphic change along the upper Sacramento River. These data were collected by the Nano-Hyperspec imaging system, manufactured by Headwall Photonics, Inc. The flight was conducted by Headwall Photonics, Inc.; Headwall also performed the initial radiometric and geometric data processing. The data were acquired from a DJI Matrice M600 UAS and have a spatial resolution (pixel size) of 0.178 m. The data set consists...

This data release includes videos acquired from a helicopter and field measurements of flow depth and velocity from the Tanana River near Nenana, Alaska, obtained on July 24, 2019. This parent data release includes links to child pages for two data sets produced during the study: 1. Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) field measurements of flow depth and velocity from the Tanana River, Alaska, collected on July 24, 2019. 2. Videos of the Tanana River, Alaska, acquired from a helicopter on July 24, 2019. Please refer to the individual child pages for further detail about each data set. Overall, these data were used to assess the potential to estimate surface flow velocities and water depths in sediment-laden...
These data are a part of the effort to map geologic substrates of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary region off Boston, Massachusetts. The overall goal is to develop high-resolution (1:25,000) interpretive maps, based on multibeam sonar data and seabed sampling, showing surficial geology and seabed sediment dynamics. The work was conducted in collaboration with the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, and the data collected will aid research on the ecology of fish and invertebrate species that inhabit the region. The Sanctuary's research vessel, R/V Auk, visited a total of 169 locations on Stellwagen Bank during three separate surveys from September 2020 to August 2021. During these surveys a customized...
Multibeam bathymetry data were collected along the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather Fault between Icy Point and Dixon Entrance, offshore southeastern Alaska from 2016-05-17 to 2016-06-12. Data were collected aboard the Alaska Department of Fish and Game R/V Medeia using a Reson SeaBat 7160 multibeam echosounder, Reson 7k Control Center, and HYPACK. This data release contains approximately 4,600 square kilometers of multibeam bathymetry and backscatter data, organized into zip files for each Julian Day of the survey.

This dataset contains surface dive times, defined as 0-2 m in the water column, for three species of sea turtles (Kemp's ridleys, loggerheads, and green turtles) tracked via satellite telemetry in the Gulf of Mexico during periods within 2010-2019. It contains information on turtle species, location, proportion of time in "surface" bins, region of the Gulf of Mexico, corresponding remotely-sensed variables at specific locations/times (i.e., sea surface temperature, sea surface temperature anomalies, salinity, current direction, sea surface height), depth, and distance to shore. This dataset thus allows estimation of time each turtle spent at the surface in various sites in the Gulf of Mexico.

These data were collected by the Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) 1500H, manufactured by ITRES Research Limited. The flight was conducted by Quantum Spatial, Inc. (QSI); QSI also performed the initial radiometric and geometric data processing. The data were acquired from fixed wing aircraft and have a spatial resolution (pixel sizes) of 0.5 m. The data set consists of...

Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the upper American River in California, November 5-7, 2018, to support research on mapping chinook salmon spawning locations (redds) via remote sensing. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained by wading the shallow channel margins with RTK GPS receivers and measuring water surface elevations along the water's edge and bed elevations within the channel; depths were calculated by subtracting bed elevations from the nearest water surface elevation. For the deeper areas representing most of the channel, depths were recorded along a series of cross-sections by a SonTek RiverSurveyor S5 acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed...

Bathymetric data were collected from select sites along the Kootenai River in northern Idaho, September 26-27, 2017, to support research on sturgeon habitat, dispersion processes, and geomorphic change along the Kootenai and, more broadly, remote sensing of rivers. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Geospatial Program (NGP) and National Research Program (NRP) acquired hyperspectral image data from the Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, ID. The image data extended from the Kootenai Tribal FishHatchery downstream to the Copeland bridge. Image data acquisition occurred on September 27, 2017. A field team collected ground truthing data within the project area to calibrate and validate estimates of water depth...

Field measurements of flow depth and depth-averaged velocity were acquired from a reach of the Tanana River near Nenana, Alaska, July 24, 2019, to support research on estimating surface flow velocities and water depths from remotely sensed data via particle image velocimetry (PIV) and flow resistance equations, respectively. The depth and velocity measurements included in this data release were obtained using a TRDI RiverRay acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed from a boat with an outboard motor. This data release provides depths and depth-averaged flow velocities derived from the raw ADCP data using the TRDI WinRiver II processing software. The WinRiver II output was then imported into the USGS Velocity...
