These data were compiled to investigate the control of drying on the aeolian transport of river-sourced sand. Objectives of our study were to to examine aeolian sediment transport during a five-day period of low steady river flow on a river sandbar and adjacent aeolian dunefield. These data represent the observed and theoretical threshold fiction velocities for aeolian sediment transport, as well as the grain size, sediment moisture content, surface roughness and other characteristics of the sandbar and sand dune surfaces. These data were collected at a sandbar and aeolian sand dune along the Colorado River approximately 19 km downstream from Glen Canyon Dam at Lees Ferry, Arizona, USA from March 15 to 20, 2021....
Unaltered Beach This layer is an outdated version of one of the South Atlantic LCC indicators in the beach and dune ecosystem. It is an index of altered beaches capturing impacts from hardened structures like jetties, groins, and infrastructure. This indicator was updated in Blueprint 2.2 to incorporate more recent data from the Coastal Barrier Resources System, which is used to set the boundaries of undeveloped beaches. The updated indicator was also extended to new areas of the beach and dune ecosystem map. During autumn 2009 and winter 2010, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), conducted a hydrographic survey using a multibeam echosounder system (MBES). The survey was from river mile (RM) 130 to 142 on the Snake River, and from RM 0 to 2 on the Clearwater River areas of Lower Granite Reservoir. These data were compiled to enable estimation of aeolian dune field sediment budgets calculated using remote sensing methods. The objective of the study was to evaluate sediment budgets calculated for the Lees Ferry dune field in Grand Canyon, Earth as a terrestrial analog for aeolian dune fields in Valles Marineris, Mars. These data represent digital elevation models (DEM) of the topography of the Lees Ferry dune field in February and May, 2019, respectively. These data were collected with an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing survey conducted on February 28th and then repeated on May 2nd, 2019.
