This paper uses the Jobs and Economic Development Impacts (JEDI) model to estimate economic impacts from 1398 MW of wind power development in four counties in west Texas. Project-specific impacts are estimated at the local level (i.e., within a 100-mile radius around the wind farms) and at the state level. The primary economic policy question addressed is how investment in wind energy affects the state and local communities where the wind farms are built. During the four-year construction phase approximately 4100 FTE (full time equivalents) jobs were supported with turbine and supply chain impacts accounting for 58% of all jobs generated. A severe sustained drought in the Colorado River Basin would cause economic damages throughout the Basin. An integrated hydrologic-economic-institutional model introduced here shows that consumptive water users in headwaters states are particularly vulnerable to very large shortfalls and hence large damages because their rights are effectively junior to downstream users. Chronic shortfalls to consumptive users relying on diversions in excess of rights under the Colorado River Compact are also possible. Nonconsumptive water uses (for hydropower and recreation) are severely affected during the worst drought years as instream flows are reduced and reservoirs are depleted. To examine Palau residents’ reliance on reef fish, we reviewed published peer-reviewed literature, non-governmental organizations’ surveys, and unpublished data from a survey conducted by this project’s team. Volume of reef fish caught, consumed, and bartered at periurban, urban, and rural states was compared to the area of reefs within state waters to calculate fishing pressure. Data on fish residential consumption was triangulated and synthesized across data sources, including PIs Oleson and Lewis’ unpublished data from a resident survey conducted in 2018, an SPC dataset of fisher households conducted in 2018, and peer-reviewed literature.
This paper presents an analysis of the effects of different institutional arrangements and economic environments on water markets. Characteristics of water rights transfers in the South Platte Basin of Colorado and transfers of shares of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (NCWCD) are compared to show how different institutional arrangements can affect the types and size distributions of transfers. Wind energy is the fastest growing renewable energy source in Europe. Europe accounted for 69% of the total installed capacity and 70% of the annual market growth during 2005. The wind energy sector would have preferred a strengthening of existing, successful, legislation, and is concerned that a new legislative package could take years to adopt at a crucial time in the development of large scale wind power. The main objective of this study is to summarize the strategies and activities of the EU countries toward sustainable development goals. In addition, this paper describes the environmental and economic impacts of wind power technology in the EU.
Wind energy is the fastest growing renewable energy source in Europe. Europe accounted for 69% of the total installed capacity and 70% of the annual market growth during 2005. The wind energy sector would have preferred a strengthening of existing, successful, legislation, and is concerned that a new legislative package could take years to adopt at a crucial time in the development of large scale wind power. The main objective of this study is to summarize the strategies and activities of the EU countries toward sustainable development goals. In addition, this paper describes the environmental and economic impacts of wind power technology in the EU.

International agreement on global warming mitigation is likely to prove difficult. Efficiencybased policies will result in disparate costs and benefits among nations and thus hinder cooperation. This paper suggests that consideration be given to an equitable sharing of the economic impacts of global warming policy. Acknowledging that there is no universally-held concept of equity, the policy implications of several alternatives are explored. Because there is considerable variation in these implications, it will be important for decision-makers to clarify their preferred concepts of equity during the course of their negotiations on policies to address global warming.
