The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data of the nearshore region of the North Pacific show temperature ranges in degrees C using points whose locations correspond to the centroids of AVHRR Pathfinder version 5 monthly, global, 4 km data set (PFSST V50). The pathfinder rasters are available from the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC), hosted by NASA JPL. The data points in this dataset lie within a 20 km buffer from the GSHHS (Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Shoreline) coastline. The GSHHS vector data are available from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC). Furthermore, each point in the SST dataset is categorized by the ecoregion in which it is located. This...

This dataset contains measures of natural vegetation fragmentation for the Colorado Plateau Ecoregion calculated using FRAGSTATS, a program which produces a series of metrics that are focused on fragmentation at the individual patch, class, and landscape levels. The fragmentation surface (input to FRAGSTATS) was created from NLCD Impervious Surfaces, LANDFIRE EVT, NatureServe National Landcover, roads, utility lines, power plants, pipelines, geothermal wells, mines, wind turbines, and oil/gas wells. The following three fragmentation metrics generated by FRAGSTATS (contained in this dataset) were chosen as input variables to the terrestrial landscape intactness logic model:1.) Number of patches [NP attribute] 2.)...

This dataset represents relative downstream impact from dams (high, medium, low) by 12-digit HUC reporting unit, estimated with the following methodology:1. Utah Division of Waterrights' dataset showing dam break inundation areas for high hazard dams was used as the first reference file (http://www.waterrights.utah.gov/gisinfo/wrcover.asp). HUCs with comparatively large inundation zones were coded as “high” impact and those with small inundation zones were coded as “medium” impact. Streams that continued further were coded as “low” until they combined with another significant stream, river, or lake. This procedure was not followed in extremely arid areas where the perennial streams became intermittent or ended in...

This dataset provides an estimate of aquatic intactness (i.e. condition or integrity) across the Northern Leatherside's potential distribution. Current aquatic intactness estimates are based on the extent to which human impacts such as water demand, agriculture, urban development, natural resource extraction, dams, diversions, and alterations have disrupted the hydrology, water quality, and habitat quality of aquatic systems across the state of Utah and the Colorado Plateau. Aquatic intactness values will be high in areas where these impacts are low. This HUC6 (12-Digit NHD Hydrologic Unit Code) resolution dataset was created for the Colorado Plateau REA stepdown analysis using the open-source logic modeling framework...

This dataset was clipped to the Utah and Colorado Plateau Ecoregion study site boundary by Conservation Biology Institute. http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/817/Original Metadata:This data set provides industrial-scale onshore wind turbine locations in the United States through July 22, 2013, corresponding facility information, and turbine technical specifications. The database has more than 47,000 wind turbine records that have been collected, digitized, locationally verified, and internally quality controlled.

This data set was created to facilitate the BLM Greater Sage-Grouse Land Use Planning Strategy – Utah Sub-Region addresses preparation of an environmental impact statement to consider amendments to 14 BLM land use plans throughout the State of Utah, as well as 6 Forest Service land use plans. This planning process was initiated through issuance of a Notice of Intent published on December 6, 2011. The purpose of the planning process is to address protection of greater sage-grouse, in partial response to a March 2010 decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) that found the greater sage-grouse was eligible for listing under the authorities of the Endangered Species Act. The planning process will prepare...

The Sevilleta LTER supports a long-term, integrated, interdisciplinary research program addressing key hypotheses on pattern and process in aridland ecosystems. Sevilleta LTER research includes studies in desert grassland and shrubland communities, and riparian and mountain forests emphasizing pulse driven processes in space and time. Key drivers (e.g., climate, fire, water, resource availability) govern dynamics in each landscape component. Our focus on how biotic and abiotic drivers affect spatial and temporal dynamics of aridland ecosystems allows us to conduct long-term research that addresses important basic theories and yet has significant relevance to regional, national and international priorities. The...
