This dataset contains 212 samples from 8 Oenothera deltoides subsp. howellii occurrences, 3 occurrences of the unknown taxon- clade X, and 3 occurrences of related Oenothera deltoides subsp. cognata. Genomic markers were generated from ddRAD loci (Peterson and others, 2012) and analyzed using the Stacks v2.53 (Catchen and others, 2013) pipeline. The genotypes for all samples are provided in a VCF file with 2,693 independent loci and 15 percent missing data. A companion file is provided with sample names and occurrence designations. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor program, such as Notepad (PC) or BBEdit (Mac). The .vcf file can be loaded into the Stacks population program (Catchen and others,...
These datasets were developed to represent the genetic diversity, and population structure of Plantago ovata in the Mojave Desert. The genetic datasets record genetic variation at an individual level, with the file structures varying based on the programs within which the files are intended to be edited. The .genepop file can be viewed in GENEPOP software (Rousset 2008) or imported into R statistical software (https://www.R-project.org/) using the adegenet package (Jombart and Ahmed 2011). The .vcf file can be loaded into the Stacks population program (Catchen et al. 2013) to calculate genetic diversity statistics. References: Catchen, J., Hohenlohe, P. A., Bassham, S., Amores, A., & Cresko, W. A. (2013). Stacks:...

This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from eleven autosomal loci (Lar24, Lar12, Lar26, Lar19, Rbg13, K16, Rbg18, Hg18, Hg16, Hg25, Rbg29). A total of 651 Larus gulls were examined for this study with samples collected throughout North America, Europe, Russia, and South America.
The project objective is to transfer to California a previously developed prioritization framework that combines intraspecific genetic and morphological variation with traditionally used indices of biodiversity, and test its general utility for conservation prioritization. This project will integrate existing data on intraspecific variation of multiple species in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area with climate data and space-borne measurements of the environment to identify areas with high intraspecific variation.
This paper is based on the marshalling of a wide variety of evidence in an effort to understand the origins and evolutionary deployment of a faunal unit, namely the species of toads of the genus Buf o that occur in North America. Another purpose is to learn the mechanisms of speciation in this group Published in Evolution, volume 17, issue 1, on pages 1 - 16, in 1963.

This dataset contains genomic records from 184 California Gnatcatchers (Polioptila californica) collected at 18 sites in southern California (USA), 13 sites in Baja California (Mexico), and 17 sites in Baja California Sur (Mexico). Genomic markers were generated from ddRAD loci (Peterson and others, 2012) and analyzed using the Stacks v2.53 (Catchen and others, 2013) pipeline. The genotypes for all samples are provided in a VCF file with 84,125 independent loci and 7 percent missing data. A companion file is provided with sample names and occurrence designations. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor program, such as Notepad (PC) or BBEdit (Mac). The .vcf file can be loaded into the Stacks population...

These data were compiled to investigate the demographic and phylogeographic of Carex specuicola. Objectives of our study were to understand the demographic and dispersal history of Carex specuicola across hanging gardens, the hybridization history between Carex specuicola and Carex utahensis, and the population structure of Carex specuicola across its distribution. The data release consists of three tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure and diversity (CASP.stru), relationships among sampling localities Carex.phylip), or genetic diversity statistics and demographic history (Carex.snps.vcf). These data represent genetic variation on an individual (.stru and .vcf) or sampling locality...

These data were compiled to investigate the evolutionary history of Astragalus iselyi, A. sabulosus var. sabulosus, and A. sabulosus var. vehiculus. The data release consists of six text files. One file is a bash script (astragalus_MLE_msms.sh) for generating simulated genetic data. Four files contain individual-level (astragalus.fasta, astragalus.nothin.recode.vcf, astragalus.recode.vcf) or population-level (astragalus_dadi.txt) information on genetic variation. One file contains sampling site-specific data for various soil and climatic variables (astragalus_env.txt). The .vcf files contain the full sequence information that is contained in the other files, but the file structures vary based on the programs used...

The Ecology Section at the USGS Conte Laboratory has studied fish in the West Brook since 1997. The goal is to understand the strength and direction of drivers on fish growth, movement, reproduction and survival in the wild. We hope to provide a comprehensive understanding of fish population dynamics and ultimately individual fitness (natural selection and evolution) in the study area.
The dataset consists of sets of orthologous gene sequences obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and from Cornman and Cryan (2022). Sequences derive from twelve bat species that are representative of bat diversity and for which high-quality gene models have been annotated. Each gene set was codon aligned and subsequently trimmed as needed for evolutionary analysis.
Since the beginning of the Cenozoic period several hundreds of metres of the sedimentary cover have been removed from the Colorado Plateau. Palaeoclimatic considerations show that the Colorado Plateau has been dominated by dry climates throughout the Cenozoic with the possible exception of the early Palaeocene. Today in the still prevailing arid climate, which strongly accentuates differences in rock resistance, the relief shows a structurally controlled cuesta scarp topography in the slightly deformed strata of alternating resistance. In examining whether the denudational efficiency of scarp retreat was sufficient to account for the wide erosional gaps in the sedimentary cover, rates of scarp retreat were determined...
Geographic variation in selection pressures may result in population divergence and speciation, especially if sexual selection varies among populations. Yet spatial variation in targets and intensity of sexual selection is well studied in only a few species. Even more rare are simultaneous studies of multiple populations combining observations from natural settings with controlled behavioral experiments. We investigated how sexual selection varies among populations of the chuckwalla, Sauromalus obesus. Chuckwallas are sexually dimorphic in color, and males vary in coloration among populations. Using field observations and multiple regression techniques, we investigated how sexual selection acts on various male traits...
We explore the potential for applying broad ecological theories to interactions between soil animals and micro-organisms to generate a predictive framework within which more hypothesis led research can be undertaken. The paper stems from discussions during a workshop at the XIVth International Symposium on Soil Zoology. The possible linkage between biodiversity and ecosystem functions forms a good example of how soil zoology research can be productively stimulated by addressing a broader ecological concept but also how the concept can be tested below ground at fundamentally different scales to those commonly used above ground. Other areas of theory rapidly developing above ground, which are yet to be fully tested...

These data were compiled to investigate the demographic, phylogeographic, and adaptation history of Hilaria jamesii. The data release consists of three tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure or putative adaptive loci (hija_adaptation_dataset.stru), relationships among sampling localities (hija_phylogeny_dataset.phylip), or genetic diversity statistics (hija_diversity_stats.vcf). All files record genetic variation on an individual (.stru and .vcf) or sampling locality (.phylip) level. The .vcf file contains all of the information contained in the other files, but the file structures vary based on the programs used for analysis. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor...
