Grand Falls dune field (GFDF) is located on the Navajo Nation, ~70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ. This active dune field displays a range of morphologies, including barchans, smaller dunes, and ripples, and is bimodal in composition. The felsic component is likely derived from the Little Colorado River, and the mafic component (basaltic grains) is locally sourced from nearby cinder cones [1]. GFDF is an excellent analog site for both active dunes on Mars and other planetary bodies that have dune-like features (e.g., Venus and Titan). We have set up a meteorological station within the dune field that records temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed, solar radiation, and precipitation...

Sediment samples were collected from Los Padres reservoir in the Carmel River watershed, central California coast, between July 11 and 17, 2017, using a CME-45 barge-mounted drill rig, to characterize sedimentary properties in the reservoir deposits following the Soberanes Fire of 2016 and high river flows in winter 2017. Borehole samples were recovered using direct push coring with an Osterberg piston sampler operated by Taber Drilling Company of Sacramento, California, and overseen by AECOM, Inc. Sediment was recovered using a split-barrel sampler and a rotary drill bit was added to the sampler where needed to penetrate coarse sediment. Samples from four boreholes are described in this data release: three sampled...

The grain size of sediment on the riverbed was measured during 20 surveys on the Elwha River, Washington, between 2006 and 2017. Most data were collected along the same transects where channel topography was measured (see related child item in this data release: https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5a989288e4b06990606de04b). Measurements of sediment ranging from medium sand to boulders were made using the CobbleCam digital photographic technique (Warrick and others, 2009), which uses a calibrated autocorrelation algorithm (Rubin, 2004) to calculate the mean grain size of sediment from pixels in downward-looking digital photographs. This technique yields grain-size values accurate to within 14 percent of those...

These data are the results of surveys for the Shasta salamander complex (Hydromantes shastae, H. samweli, and H. wintu) conducted at 87 survey plots on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest from April 2019 to March 2020. Time- and area-constrained occupancy surveys were conducted at plots selected within high-priority areas identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There are additional surveys planned for future field seasons. As the Shasta Salamander is under review for listing under the Endangered Species Act, sensitive location information is restricted, and can be made available upon request by contacting the dataset point of contact.

This dataset contains the physical collection information (e.g., sample location, date, gear type) and microsatellite DNA genotype of egg and larval Lake Sturgeon collected in the St. Clair and Detroit rivers in 2015 and 2016. Individuals were genotyped for 18 microsatellite loci (13 disomic and 5 polysomic). Alleles (base pair sizes) were recorded as presence absence scores (1:present, 2:absent, 0:missing data) for all previously observed alleles. Thus individual genotypes were recorded as pseudo diploid dominant phenotypes resulting in individual vectors of length n=205 for each genotyped egg or larval individual.

A study was conducted to assess the vertical accretion of sediment in the Mud Lake impoundment of Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located in Brown County, South Dakota. Sediment cores were collected from the Mud Lake impoundment during 2000 for determination of vertical accretion rates, which were estimated using cesium-137 and lead-210 isotopic dating techniques. These data directly support the associated publication “Sedimentation Rates in the Marshes of Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge, South Dakota” which is referenced within the Metadata.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has developed the PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence (PROSPER) model, a GIS raster-based empirical model that provides streamflow permanence probabilities (probabilistic predictions) of a stream channel having year-round flow for any unregulated and minimally-impaired stream channel in the Pacific Northwest region, U.S. The model provides annual predictions for 2004-2016 at a 30-m spatial resolution based on monthly or annually updated values of climatic conditions and static physiographic variables associated with the upstream basin. These values and variables, known as Continuous Parameter Grids, or CPGs, were used as the predictor variables in the model. For purposes of organization,...
